Years passed with no word from Daemon or Rhaegon in years. Last Shaera heard, Daemon had married Laena Velaryon and had two twin daughters, Baela and Rhaena.

Shaera could tell the disappointment Daemion felt by the absence of the two men he had once looked up to. Not to mention, it was his twelfth name day and he was still without a dragon.

Viserra and Rhaegon had both become riders by the age of ten, their mother by twelve. His siblings both had become riders with the help of Daemon. No matter where they were, no matter what their mother thought, Daemon had always returned to them to help them claim their dragons. It was the moment each child had shared with their true father.

And yet here Daemion was and yet Daemon had not come.

Upon the boy's twelfth name day, Shaera knew by then, Daemon would never join his youngest son as he claimed his dragon.

She knew it meant she had to do it. It pained her to know the heartbreak and loneliness her boy felt. She hated when Daemon put her children at risk at such a young age but if the past proved anything, the dragons never rejected her children. They were of pure valyrian blood, even more so than Alicent's children or even Rhaenyra.

It had been the middle of the night when Shaera traveled to Daemion's chambers. She slowly opened the door and sighed at the sight of her son fast asleep in bed.

She moved closer to his bed, lightly shaking the sleeping prince.

With a jolt, Daemion's eyes shot open and he frowned at the sight of his mother. "Mother?" He asked, rubbing his eyes tiredly, "What is it?"

"Come. We're going to Dragonstone," She told her son in a hushed tone, which caused the boy's eyes to light up in excitement.

He nodded quickly and wasted no time hopping out of the bed. It wasn't long before they were at the castle walls.

He smiled excitedly as he watched his mother hand one of the guards a sack of coins. He weighed it in his hand before opening the doors.

It had all gone by so quick to Daemion. Before he knew it they had arrived at the Kingswood. He knew it was where Nightwing resided. Against the king's protest, Shaera and her children's dragons were rarely kept in the dragonpit.

His mother had always claimed the creatures didn't deserve to be kept in captivity. That it made them weaker and smaller. The difference in size between Rhaegon and Rhaenyra's dragons proved just that.
