Much to Daena's disappointment, Prince Aegon had arrived late for the lessons, meaning they waited to begin with the two of them absent.

Standing in the dimply lit caves with her cousins, Aegon, Aemond, Luc, and Jace, Daena found herself yawning in boredom.

It earned a light shoulder bump from Aemond, knowing if she continued they'd all be scolded.

They watched as the dragon keepers led Vermax toward them. The dragon was Jacerys', given it had hatched from the egg placed in his cradle.

"Umbas, Vermax!" The leader of the dragon keepers spoke up calmly before turning toward Jacaerys, "Let him come."

After Vermax was released, Jacaerys was shoved toward his dragon.

Aegon yawned, earning a small chuckle from Daena. "I don't understand why I must be here. I don't even have a dragon," Daena spoke up, turning to glance up at Aegon.

"Yet," Aegon corrected her, lightly squeezing her shoulder as he stood behind her, "There's always time."

The two watched Vermax approach their group, toward his future rider.

"Call Vermax to heel, Prince Jacaerys," One of the Dragon keeper insisted in a calm tone.

"Dohaeras!" Jacaerys quickly spoke and the dragon stopped in front of him.

Just then, Vermax snarled at him, earning a flinch from the boy. "Well done," The Dragon Keeper told him and turned toward where a sheep was brought toward them.

Vermax snarled as he moved to run toward the sheep, ignoring as Jacaerys repeatedly called his name.

"Halt!" The Dragon keeper spoke up, beginning to speak to him in High Valyrian.

He spoke so quickly that none of the children could understand him, giving they were all still learning their ancestor's mother tongue.

"You must hold mastery over your dragon, my young princes," One of the others began to translate, "As Prince Aegon has with Sunfyre and Prince Daemion with Vermithor not too long ago. Once they're fully bound to you, they will refuse to take instruction from any other."

Vermax screeched loudly at the sheep, aching to be able to eat the animal.

"Can I say it?" Jace excitedly turned to the dragon keepers and Daena smiled widely.

"Ooh! My favorite part!" She excitedly cheered and Jace turned to her, smiling as well.

Before he could speak to her, the dragon keeper averted the boy's attention back to his dragon. "Dracarys, Vermax!" Jacaerys shouted and the dragon wasted no time setting fire to the sheep.
