FROM THE ASHES
— 13. The Prince of the Narrow Sea
It had a month since Rhaenyra had last seen her home at King's Landing. She had been tasked with going on tour, to search for a husband worthy of her hand. She hated it, it bored her. It infuriated her how willing her father was to sell her off.
She found herself standing on the deck of the ship, staring at King's Landing from afar. She longed to return her home, more than anything. And so she was. Still unwed.
"We should make landfall inside the hour, Princess," Ser Criston had suggested, walking closer to the young woman.
Rhaenyra sighed, turning to glance at her sworn shield. "How do you think he will take it?"
Criston couldn't help but smile in amusement. They both knew she was to be scolded when she returned. "Do you speak of how you rejected every suitor His Grace put before you, or how you abruptly ended the tour with two months remaning?"
Rhaenyra smirked and shrugged at the question. She turned to look back at the water, only to frown at the sound of a dragon shrieking.
She and Criston immediately turned in the direction of the sound. She watched the knight begin to bark orders, yelling at the people of the ship to take cover.
A dragon was coming right for them.
Rhaenyra had been the only one to stand in place, not fearing a dragon. She watched Caraxes fly past them, Thyrax following soon after.
Thyrax, clearly obeying his rider's directions, used his tail to strike the boat. The ship in return jolted, causing Rhaenyra to fall against the rails.
"Princess!" Criston shouted worriedly and rushed to help her up, "You all right? Are you? Fetch the master!"
"I'm fine," Rhaenyra insisted, continuing to press her hand against her throbbing. She never stumbled, but Criston was quick to catch her.
She found herself staring out onto the open water, admiring the sight of the dragons traveling toward the Red Keep.
She began to smile widely, knowing it meant Rhaegon had returned. Something she had hoped for years.

In the throne room of the Red Keep, Viserys sat upon his throne, awaiting his brother and nephew's arrival. The Kingsguard were the first to enter, allowing the people of the court to enter next.
Shaera and her children, accompanied by Viserra's husband and Ser Morro entered the throne room, finding a spot toward the back.
It wasn't long before Rhaenyra approached them, a concerned look on her face. "What's going on?"
