FROM THE ASHES
— 4. Winterfell
Another two years had passed and there had been no word from Daemon, much to Shaera and her children's disappointment.Shaera stood alone in the Godswood, enjoying the fresh air when she heard a voice call out to her. Her expression was consumed with annoyance when she turned to see it was her husband Ellard.
"Why must I always search for you in the Godswood?" He complained, noticing how whenever he was home, which wasn't often, she avoided him at all costs, "You're my wife. You should be at my side, not wandering about the forest like a fool."
"I will not stand by and watch as you insult me," She complained, referring to how he was usually accompanied by a mistress, "Especially as you insult my son for not sharing in your indulgences."
"Rhaegon is nearly a man. I only wish to bond with him," Ellard responded in a calm tone, "He continues to be cold to me. All the while I do nothing but show love to that boy."
"You do not love him," Shaera snapped with an attitude, "You do not love any of my children. Not even Daemion. You love no one but your own ego. And here I thought all men of House Stark were honorable--"
Before Shaera could finish, she grunted. Her face whipped to the side as his palm collided with her cheek.
Shaera's eyes widened in shock. She pressed her hand where he had struck her and lifted her head. She stared up at him emotionlessly, blood dripping from the corner of her lip. She refused to show herself in pain. No. He wanted that. He wanted to see her weak.
"Do it again," Shaera challenged him as she stared up at him proudly, practically smiling, "I dare you."
"And you'll what?" Elllard argued as he looked around, "I see no guards, no dragon to come save you. This is the North. This is my home and you have no allies here."
Shaera didn't respond. She only smiled. She simply shot him a glare before walking in the direction of the Winterfell. In all honesty, she found the whole ordeal hilarious. Her husband thought himself to be some man she should have been afraid of but she was anything but. If she wanted to, Nightwing could've swooped in at that moment and ate him for lunch. But she couldn't. Not yet.
She couldn't kill this one. Not until she knew for sure that Viserys wouldn't marry her off the moment she returned to King's Landing.
Thirteen years. Thirteen years she had been killing every man Viserys sold her off to and yet, he didn't seem to take the hint. It annoyed her. She didn't understand why any man would want to marry her anymore, knowing that all the rest ended up dead prematurely. And yet, then came another husband.
Obviously her dowry was quite significant and she came with now three dragons, but did they have a death wish?
No man married to Shaera had survived longer than three years. Shaera knew why Viserys kept doing it too.
