I put Theodora in her baby bouncer while Fred did Phoebe's hair for school.

He brushed through it and put it in two pigtails which was currently her favourite hair style.

"I'll drop Phoebes off at school and I'll be back home by fifteen minutes." Fred told me, his voice dry, but his voice softened when he then spoke to Phoebe. "And you get to show me your new classroom, right?"

"And my new chair." She pointed out. "It's your favourite colour."

Fred gasped. "My favourite colour? You have a red chair?"

"Yeah! It's so cool!"

"I bet." He grinned down at her while wrapping a hair tue around the second pigtail. "Get your lunch from the fridge. We're leaving in five minutes."

Phoebe slid off the chair and ran to the fridge. She used all of her strength to open it and then grabbed her lunchbox on the bottom shelf.

After shutting the door, she walked into the hallway to put it in her backpack, and at the same time, Fred turned to me.

I was leaning on the kitchen island, eating a breakfast waffle and my eyes focused on Fred while he opened his mouth to speak.

"I don't know who sent you that letter or—"

"Neither do I!" I exclaimed. "Jesus, Fred. What exactly are you accusing me of?"

He pressed his lips together and turned his face away from me.

"I'll be home in fifteen to twenty minutes." He said and walked over to the baby bouncer to kiss Theodora goodbye. "Then we'll talk."

I stared after him as he walked into the hallway.

Phoebe ran back into the kitchen and threw herself into my arms.

I let out a groan as I picked her up and held her in my arms.

"You ready to go back to school?" I smiled at her. "Year one is a big thing."

"I'm excited." She said and wrapped her arms around my neck, resting her head on my shoulder.

In June, we went to introduction day because Phoebe transferred from reception to actually starting school.

She'd start her first real year, so we met the teachers and the other parents. Then the kids were shown the classroom without the parents so the kids could try and meet each other without any pressure from the parents' presence.

Phoebe had a very big personality and she loved clothes, especially colourful ones, so Fred and I had decided to enrol her somewhere she didn't have to wear the same uniform every day.

When she started the reception year last year, she was so happy to pick out the most colourful outfits she could show up in.

"That's good, baby. It'll be so much fun, yeah? You're gonna make so many new friends and you'll learn so much."

Fred showed up in the doorway.

"We have to get going." He said, mostly to me so I could finish saying goodbye to Phoebe.

"I'll be right there to pick you up at three-thirty, alright?" I looked at Phoebe and hugged her before putting her down.

"In the car?" She asked and looked up at me.

I laughed and nodded.

"I'll come pick you up in the car." I assured her, and she smiled before spinning around, skipping out into the hallway, Fred turning to follow her.
