"You think we'll be able to see the sex?"
"I have no idea." I sighed. "I'm not even showing so it feels like it can't possibly be big enough for us to see the sex."
I was lying on the bed in one of the rooms in the clinic. Fred was by my side, and we were waiting for our OB/GYN, Nicole Zenner.
Fred smiled as he placed a hand on my stomach, rubbing his thumb back and forth.
"You don't have to worry. One day, you'll pop."
"Pop?" I cocked an eyebrow, causing him to chuckle.
"You know what I mean."
"Your boyfriend is right." Nicole entered the room with her usual bright smile on her face. "Some women don't start showing until halfway through their pregnancy. One day, they notice that there is a bump that wasn't there the day before."
"Really?" I asked. "Because you really can't tell I'm pregnant, and I'm sixteen weeks along. The only way I know I've gained weight, is that I can't close my jeans, so Fred bought me this extender and it's really great, and I'm ranting. I'm so sorry, I'm just really notice."
Nicole laughed softly, shaking her head at me.
"It's alright. It's normal to be nervous at the sixteen-week-scan." She told me as she turned on the ultrasound machine.
A couple of minutes later, we saw the clear image of a baby up in the screen while the transducer pressed into my stomach.
"Holy shit." Fred cursed at the clear image that showed our baby's face.
He was holding my hand with both of his, holding them to his cheek.
"Look at that tiny nose." He whispered. "Looks just like yours."
"That's so weird." I muttered. "How is it already so much more baby-like than a month ago?"
We watched as the baby kicked it's legs, and my eyes widened slightly.
"A feisty one." Nicole commented. "Would you like to know the sex?"
She looked at us, and I propped myself up on my elbows, staring at her.
"You know? Like right now? You know what it'll be?"
"I do." She offered a smile. "Would you like to know or wait?"
"Oh, we want to know." I said, and Fred nodded in agreement.
"Well, I can tell you that you are having a little girl."
I heard Fred inhale sharply while my eyes flicked to the screen.
A girl.
We were having a daughter.
"Oh thank god. I needed that after growing up with mostly brothers." I breathed, causing Nicole to laugh. "I couldn't take having a son as well."
I was joking, of course. If it had been a boy, I would've loved him just as much as I currently loved the girl.
Our girl.

"I have to stop by my uncles house today." I told Fred as we shared a pizza like we usually did after an ultrasound.
"Which uncle?"
"Eric." I informed him. Eric was my dads younger brother by two years. "I promised to babysit my cousins. Eric and my aunt Luna are going on a date."
Luna Dots married my uncle twelve years ago, the year before they had Carl. She was a cool aunt. I had always liked her.
"I feel bad for you. Babysitting four kids. Isn't the youngest four months old?"
