Birds were chirping somewhere in the distance, and a light was shining right into my face.

I groaned, lifting a hand to shield my eyes as I opened them and blinked a couple of times.

"Maves? Maves, can you hear me?"

I groaned again, this time in response to the voice that kept calling for me.

My vision was blurred, but it cleared up after I continued to blink for a few seconds, and when I saw Reuben above me, I tried to sit up.

He pressed his hands to my shoulders, pushing me back down.

"Don't. You hit your head pretty badly."

"What?" I muttered, trying to get up again. "No I didn't."

"Don't sit up." Reuben told me. "You woke up about thirty minutes ago, panicked and fell."

I brought a hand up to my pounding head. "I don't remember that."

But then I remembered what happened in Spencer's flat, and I practically flew into a sitting position.

"Mavis, calm down." Reuben hurried to say. "Take a deep breath. Don't start panicking. We can't use that for anything."

I looked at him, and then my eyes scanned the room which seemed to be a living room.

My eyes located Spencer who sat in an armchair, hands folded between his knees. Eliza sat on the floor in front of him, tears staining her cheeks.

"What's— where—" I clutched my throat, remembering the panic of suffocating behind that cloth and the chemicals soaking it.

"Shhh..." Reuben pressed a finger to his lips. "He said he's getting your room ready, but he'll be back soon. We need to play along, okay?"

"Play along?" I exhaled. "I don't— what's happening?"

My eyes landed on Eliza again, and I rushed towards her, pulling her into my arms.

She broke into tears, clutching onto me, and I teared up, pressing a kiss to her head. Then I lifted my head and looked up at Spencer as tears filled his eyes too.

"I'm so sorry." I whispered, shaking my head. "I'm so sorry."

I looked around, studying the room we were in. A living room, meant we were in a house.

There was tall windows by the sofa I had laid on, and a house was easy access. We should be able to leave.

I pulled back and looked at Eliza's face. "I'm going to try and get us out of here, okay? I'll be right back."

I kissed her forehead before getting to my feet. I rushed across the room to the door leading to the garden.

I tried the handle but it didn't budge.

"Mavis." Reuben sighed. "Magic has sealed the house. No one can use magic inside of it, and we can't leave."

I turned and looked at him, trying to pick my brain.

I kept looking everywhere, trying to find the smallest detail. My eyes landed on the nearest doorway, and I saw a hallway with a door at the end.

I rushed into the hallway and straight for the door, trying that one as well and suddenly it opened, but not because of me.

Someone on the other side opened it.

A talk figure stepped inside, and my breath caught in my throat.

I stumbled backwards, my eyes widening as I stared at the face that stared right back.

Bright blue eyes.
