Christmas came and went, and so did New Years.
January was slow and boring which it was every single year. Right now it was near the end of the month and I was twenty-four weeks pregnant.
Fred and I were looking for homes. We looked at both flats and houses but nothing for us to buy. I couldn't afford that. No, we were looking for flats for rent and houses for rent.
It was exhausting sometimes, looking at homes, falling in love with those homes only to find some fault that I just can't live with.
Or that Fred can't live with.
Though it's mostly me saying no, and it makes me feel like I'm the reason we still haven't found anything.
This was our fifth flat on our list. We had turned down the four previous ones, but now we had picked up the keys so we could look at it without a realtor being present.
I nervously fidgeted with my hands as Fred unlocked the front door. He didn't open it though. He turned to look at me, reaching for my hand.
"Don't be nervous. If it's not the one, we'll go to the next on the list. We'll find a place."
I sighed.
"She's due in four months, Freddie. There're so many things we need to get done before she arrives."
"And we will get to it. I promise." He placed a hand at the small of my back while pushing open the door.
He smiled at me, nudging me in first.
I stepped over the threshold, looking around at the small closed hallway we entered into. It was completely empty but with white walls and wooden floors.
To the right of the wall was an archway into another hallway, but at the end of this one, there was three doors. One on either side of the wall and one at the end.
"The things we've seen so far is perfect, right?" Fred asked from behind me. "It looks nice on the outside, and it's a nice area."
I nodded.
"How about we start down here and work our way through?" He walked down towards the three doors. "Let's not stress. Let's just look at the flat, and when we go home, we can discuss if we like it or not."
I agreed, following him as he opened the door to the right, stepping aside so I could look into the room as well.
It was just a closet. A small walk-in-closet.
"One of these must be the bedroom then." Fred wiggled his eyebrows at me before walking to the opposite door, opening it. "Nope. It's a bathroom."
I followed him into the bathroom, taking it all in.
"Oh my god, it has a tub!" I squealed. Everything in here was white too. The bathtub had a sliding screen, and two of the walls were white tiles while the remaining two were simply white.
The sink sat between the bathtub and the toilet, and below the sink was a shelf. Above the sink was a mirror in front of three additional shelves.
The mirror could slide from one side to another, revealing one side of the shelves, then the other.
I heard Fred chuckle as I kept sliding the mirror back and forth.
There was also a mirror above the toilet which was awfully odd, but the sliding mirror was cool.
"I like the bathroom." I said, turning to face Fred with a smile on my face.
"Right? It's pretty fucking great." Fred sat down on the edge of the tub, and I walked closer to him.
