As I walked down the stairs about twenty minutes later, I pulled my hair back into a high ponytail, securing it with a hair tie that sat around my wrist.
I could hear the chatter filling the house, and the soft music playing, I could hear glasses coming together, and laughter.
The party was mainly in the courtyard and the orangery which was connected to the kitchen. It made it easier for the caterers.
"There she is!"
A familiar voice caught my attention, and I paused on the stairs for a second, seeing my uncle in the stair hall, carrying his daughter under his arm as she squealed and tried to get away.
Next to my uncle stood my aunt, beautiful as ever, smiling up at me.
Something my parents have in common is that they both have four siblings, and they are both the oldest of them.
This one is my mother's only brother and also the youngest of the sibling group.
Sid Juneberry. The son of my grandparents, Reed and Annabal Juneberry.
Sid is tall like my grandfather, with dark hair and dark eyes, and a beard he always kept perfectly trimmed.
He's only twenty-seven, a few years older than my oldest brother.
But Sid is married and he has two kids. His wife's name is Beth. She's his age and she's tall with long brown hair and blue eyes. She looked like a model.
"Happy birthday, Maves." Beth smiled at me as I reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Thank you." I repaid the smile and she kindly touched my arm before she moved along to where the party was at.
"Finally eighteen." Uncle Sid exhaled, as his two-year-old daughter Lucie hung under his arm. "I remember when that was me. That was great. Though I didn't have a party like this. How does it feel?"
"To be eighteen or to have a party to celebrate it?"
My uncle thought about it for a moment, and then grinned. "Both."
I let out a breathy laugh, and then shrugged.
"I like the whole charity part of it, but other than that, I wish I could hide for the entire night." I said, looking towards the hall where some of the party took place.
"Ow!" Uncle Sid dropped Lucie to her feet, and she ran away, laughing. "She just bit me..."
I couldn't help but laugh as my uncle soothed the place on his hand by putting it in his mouth.
"That devil child is definitely Beth's." He said, shaking his head as he walked towards the hall, and I grinned, knowing that wasn't true at all.
Lucie definitely took after her father. I had heard the stories my mother would tell about her baby brother.
