After hearing that Shinji was merged with EVA-01 due to their synch rate reaching 400% Misato was not having it with Ritsuko's nonchalant attitude with Shinji turning into LCL fluid. The boiling point reached so high that Misato slapped Ritsuko.

Misato: How can you just watch what happens?! Do something! You made it, didn't you?! This is your duty, Dr.Akagi!

Ritsuko: ...

In the medical wing

Rei wakes up for the first time since she came out of EVA-00. She looks at her arm and sighs in relief.

Rei: I'm still alive. Ash-nii and (Y/n)-nii was probably worried about me.

Then suddenly images of EVA-01 flashed in her mind.

Rei: Shinji!

Rei got up as fast as she could and checked the hallway to see if anyone else from the last mission was there too. She looked at the name of the room across from hers and saw it read "(Y/n) (L/n)"

Rei: (Y-(Y/n)-nii?

Rei walks in and sees (Y/n) hooked up to machines unconscious and Asuka there, holding his hand, muttering something to herself.

Asuka: *mutters* It's all my fault... It's all my fault... It's all my fault...

Rei: Soryu, what...happened to him?

Asuka: I...I...I screwed up! I just rushed in thinking I could fight it myself but I...*starts sobbing* B-But I...

Rei walks up to Asuka and reluctantly puts a hand on her shoulder.

Rei: Hey, pull yourself together. You did what you could I think (Y/n)-nii knows that too. Though recalling the fight with that angel, I can see why he's here, but he seems fine. Why is he still in the hospital?

Asuka: He was suffering from brain damage since he wasn't breathing. And it took a while until they could get him out. Ash said it was weird for him not to revive on his own. The doctors say that he slipped into a coma last night.

Rei: ...

Asuka: I hate this! He's only like this because of me! Am I that much of a failure?

Rei: You're not. Listen you and I may never get along but you're not a failure Asuka, you just had a hiccup.

Asuka: Well this "hiccup" cost me the best boyfriend I could have asked for! He might not be the same as before...

Rei: (Y/n)-nii will be fine, he's probably rushing to get back here right now.

Asuka: You think so?

Rei: I know so. So just stay by his side, that's what he would do if it was you.

Asuka wipes some of her tears and goes back holding onto (Y/n)'s hand. Rei looks at (Y/n) praying for his return. She soon starts to leave but before she left she heard Asuka say something unexpected.
