3rd Person POV:
'Once upon a time' 'happily ever after' and 'true love' have always been lies to those who have seen the world with broken hearts and tear stained dreams. But what other fantasy feeling phrases could explain how Alex felt in this very moment?
Images of never boring conversations, lighthearted teasing, soothing reassurances in the dead of night flash, untamed and bright through Alex's mind as he stares back at himself, nerves soaring through the roof.
George stop over his right shoulder, left hand out of the mirror's line of sight as he, presumably, held Clay's hand.
Alex first found out that Dream wasn't really Dream, and was actually Clay via eves dropping on Sapnap and George who were planning out a stream later that day. If Alex walked into the room and asked why the fuck they were talking about pottery, no one else ever needed to know.
But standing here, now, on this day, Alex can't think of that, his mind far too cluttered for memories inferior to the ones leading upon to today.
George's presence alone helped calm his raging nervous that continuously tried to grasp onto his mind like a virus. It felt good, having someone by his side, someone he knew would stick by him through today and whatever there is to come afterwards.
George smooths out the dips and creases on Alex's suit and smiles a wet, warm smile, something contagious and homey. George's smile—when he's not bitching over the most absurd things and being insufferable as hell—reminds Alex of honey in tea, something soothing and sweet that hides as much of the bitter world around them as it can.
Eventually though, his best man and his best man's tagalong-hoe had to leave, and he was alone with his thoughts, and his mind isn't a comforting or in anyway nice place to be on most occasions. But now? Now it is, for once, calm and happy; satisfied at least for today.
How could it not be? Today was the day Alex had fantasized about—although no one needs to know that—for over the past year, since he got engaged.
Today might be the happiest day of his life, but that doesn't stop him from fiddling with the Simpl Dimpl Karl had gotten him for his last birthday, and worrying his lip between his teeth and blowing out a stuttering inhale.
His entire body was humming tremendously in anticipation, waiting for the signal of those first few notes to ring out.
Just as Alex is worrying the sound will never ring true, feeling like he had woken up minutes before an alarm and now sat, anxiously in a puddle of worming thoughts, Atlas: Two hummed it's gentle symphony out, and Alex would know those notes anywhere.
He spares a glance out the doorway and around a corner, looking out of the cabin to see the grassy hill Karl, Sap and him had chose all those months ago. His heart melts as he sees Sapnap standing about 17 yards away, fidgeting with hands slick with sweat. On the porch Alex had just been cued to walk out on, he sees Wilbur standing with an open book in his hands as he bumps his shoulder against Saps to get his attention, giving him a supportive and calming expression. Dream is standing at Sapnap's side, a comforting hand on his shoulder. Waking off the porch steps not too ahead of himself, Alex sees Niki and two small boys sprinkling the ground with petals as they paves the path for Karl, who is lead after them, arm linked with Jimmy. And beside Alex stands George, arm out in invitation, a wet giggle falling out of his mouth as tears slip down his face. It seems only fitting George would walk Alex to his future, having also been the one to guide him from his past.
