Please let me know if there are any others! The roommates' conversation was left with unspoken questions hanging in the air as George hung up. What is that supposed to mean? A week? Sooner? Later? George wasn't sure he'd know for sure until it was truly over.
Alex sat beside him silently throughout the call, and stayed sitting patiently when the call had ended, waiting for George to emote in some way. From what he was able to pick up from George's end, the brunette was skipping out on something to be here, and the thought of George missing something he liked for Alex, who was still too pathetic to speak, made his stomach churn and heat bleed up his neck with shame. What had he done for George to make him so willing to help, but sit here, silent and awkward?
They were supposed to be driving to the store, and after that George was supposed to drive to a nearby hotel to get a room for Alex to stay in during the trial. He had to be calm and cool, he had to be brave for Alex because the last thing the man needed was more drama in his life. But in all honesty, George wasn't sure how much longer he could keep this up before he would be forced to tell Karl and Sap the truth, and he found himself begging the beyond that it would be long enough. At that moment George made a split-second decision, and though he wasn't sure it was really the wisest, he was sure that he wouldn't be driving home alone.
The stop for groceries was quick, because now George only needed to get things he was sure he would be out of back home, and anything he needed to prepare for Alex's stay. And, really, that list was pretty short--just popcorn, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, a few pillow cases, some assorted fruit (because there was no way in hell Sapnap and Karl would have bought fruit while he was gone), and anything Alex showed an interest in.
George could see little flaw to his plan, Schlatt's trial would be over within the next month, that much was clear, and anytime Alex needed to be there for parts of the trial, it was only an hour to the courthouse in question.
It wasn't, per se, that it was difficult to convince Quackity to come stay with him, though George would not use the word 'easy' to describe the experience. For one, Quackity was stressed over his job- which, mind you, he had just gotten a position at, but that was the least of George's worries, Alex's skill set provided ample leeway for job fluxuation, and there were plenty of opportunities in the area.

Quackity had been lost in thought for some time now, it was a lot to take in--moving in with you best friend with only the two hour drive to his house as warning. Nothing was said between the two for an awkward length of time, and George didn't really know what to do with awkward. So, the brit reached over to the console and turned up the radio volume. A new song had just started, and the sudden break in the silence caught Quackity's attention.
When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see
Are all made of gold
When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood's run staleHis expression is blank, and he is painfully aware of it, though he isn't sure what else he could do. He was, to say the least, caught off guard. The lyrics, they reminded him of... his life. He shakes his head at the thought, playing therapist with himself and scolding himself immediately; his old life. This is his new life. Everything will be different now.
But that last thought isn't nearly as surefire as the rest.
I wanna hide the truth
I wanna shelter you
But with the beast inside
There's nowhere we can hide
No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come
