This past year has gone by at great speed. And as soon as we were old enough, we enlisted in the military.
Throughout the year, I had the opportunity to communicate with Harry and Professor Snape through the Patronus spell. It was a comforting connection in this chaotic world, but despite our conversations, there seemed to be no way for me to return.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron expressed their worries about the dangerous world I found myself in and my determination to fight against the Titans. While I understood their concerns, my survival instinct pushed me to do whatever it takes to stay alive.
Today, Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and I found ourselves at the southern training camp, ready to embark on the next phase of our journey. The training instructor, Keith Shadis, arrived in front of us to give us a speech that would set the tone for the challenges that lie ahead.
" We now begin the enlistment ceremony for the 104th Trainee Corps ! I am Keith Shadis, and I had the misfortune to be assigned to train you bastards ! And I'm not here to welcome you at all !". Shadis declared, his voice firm and unwelcoming.
The atmosphere grew tense as he continued, emphasizing the severity of the situation we faced," Right now, you're mere cattle, fit for nothing but Titan food ! No, less than cattle ! In three years, we'll take you worthless pieces of crap and train you ! Give you the means to fight the Titans !
In three years, when you stand before a Titan, will you still be food ? Or will you be a noble wall, shielding the King ? Or perhaps, one of humanity's glorious soldiers that slays Titans ? You will decide !". Shadis concluded, his voice echoing through the training grounds.
As the gravity of the situation sank in, I couldn't help but find amusement in the instructor's rough demeanor. This was meant to be a serious moment, yet all I wanted to do was laugh. Perhaps it was my way of coping with the tension, finding a sliver of lightheartedness amidst the darkness that surrounded us.
Shadis, despite his initial harshness, began to approach different cadets, starting with Armin. I couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for my friend as I anticipated the rudeness he was about to endure.
" You there !". Shadis bellowed at Armin, singling him out from the group.
" Y-Yes, sir !". Armin responded promptly, snapping to attention and saluting.
Shadis's gaze scrutinized Armin, his words biting," Who are you ?!".
Armin stood his ground, trying to show no signs of fear," Armin Arlert, from Shiganshina, sir !".
" Yeah ? That's a stupid name. Your parents give you that ?". Shadis inquired, an edge of mockery in his voice.
" My grandfather did !". Armin replied, holding his head high, refusing to let the insult break his spirit.
" Arlert, what are you doing here ?!". Shadis asked him.
" Trying to aid in humanity's victory, sir !". Armin declared with conviction.
The instructor's tone softened for a brief moment, acknowledging Armin's noble intentions. But then, with a sudden command, Shadis spun Armin around, forcing him to face the opposite direction.
" That is indeed wonderful... Then you will feed the Titans ! Row 3, about face !".
Just as I thought he was about to pass me, he stopped for a moment and spoke to me. It's my lucky day...
" Who are you, weird eyes ?". Shadis demanded, his voice laced with curiosity.
" Estella Potter, from Shiganshina, sir !". I replied, offering a crisp salute.
