Third person POV
Images flooded Historia's mind, overwhelming her senses. She staggered backward, pressing a trembling hand to her forehead as tears welled up in her eyes.
" What's wrong, Historia ?". Rod inquired gently, though a knowing look betrayed his understanding of her turmoil.
" How... How could I have forgotten all this time ? I wasn't alone... I had her," Historia stammered, her voice barely above a whisper." She taught me how to read and write. She was so kind to me... How could I have forgotten her ?".
" You knew Frieda ?". Rod asked softly, though his eyes were probing.
" Frieda ?". Historia echoed, confusion clouding her face.
Rod nodded, his expression grave," A young girl with long, black hair ? That must have been her. Frieda Reiss. She was your half-sister. She cared for you, visited you from time to time. She must have erased your memories of her to protect you".
" What ? Erase my memories ?". Historia's voice trembled with shock.
Rod nodded again, more firmly this time," Yes. But laying your hand on him in this place seems to have brought those memories back".
Historia's gaze shifted to Eren. She searched his eyes for a flicker of recognition, but he stared ahead, his expression frozen in horror. The silence between them was thick with unspoken fears and unanswered questions.
" Father ?" Historia's voice broke the silence, filled with a fragile hope." Where is Frieda now ? I need to thank her for everything she did for me. If it weren't for her, then I... I need to thank her".
Rod's eyes darkened, and his voice dropped to a somber tone," Frieda is no longer of this world...".
Historia's face drained of color," What ?".
Rod took a deep breath, his grip tightening on her shoulders as if to anchor her to the present," Five years ago, my wife and all of our children, including Frieda, were killed here, in this very place, by Grisha Jaeger, Eren's father. Grisha possessed the power of the Titans. I didn't know who he was then... but he came here to steal the power of the Reiss family".
He paused, his eyes reflecting a distant pain," Grisha sought the Titan power that resided inside Frieda. Her Titan was the greatest of all the Titans, possessing invincible power. But she lacked the experience to exploit its full potential. Unable to unleash her true abilities, Frieda was devoured by Grisha, who took that power from her".
Rod's voice grew heavier, laden with grief and anger," But that wasn't enough. His eyes then turned to our family. He crushed Dirk, who was fourteen, and Abel, who was twelve. He stomped Florian, just ten, and their mother, as they clung to each other. Finally, he squeezed the life out of Urklyn, our eldest son. I was the only one who survived".
He pulled Historia into a hug, his voice a mere whisper now," I'm so sorry, Historia".
Historia's eyes filled with a tempest of anger and sorrow as they fixed on Eren," My poor sister... How could his father do such a terrible thing ?".
Before Eren could try anything, a mocking voice echoed through the cavern," Whoa, whoa... Y'all still yammering ?".
Rod and Historia turned to see Kenny sauntering towards them, his steps casual, almost lazy.
" Did ya forget what I said ?" Kenny continued, his voice dripping with irony." The Military's coup d'état was a roaring success ! Good for them, right ? But it's only a matter of time before they find this place. Hurry up and get on with it".
" Yes... That was the plan," Rod replied, his voice regaining its authority." But I told you all Anti-personnel Control Squad members needed to leave here first. That includes you. So why are you still here ?".
