Third person POV :
As the Commander fell from his horse and crumpled to the ground, the remaining recruits glanced back in horror, their faces twisted with fear. Their leader, their symbol of hope, lay motionless. Was he dead? The question lingered like a cloud of despair over their hearts.
" The Commander !". Floch's voice cracked, his expression frozen in anguish.
Marlowe's hands trembled, but his voice carried an iron determination," Don't turn back ! Move forward !". He bellowed, spurring his horse onward.
The recruits, their numbers now a fraction of what they had been, screamed in terror but obeyed, driving their steeds toward certain death. Behind them, the Beast Titan stood tall, a grotesque silhouette against the smoldering horizon. It watched their futile charge with a cold, disdainful gaze.
" How pitiful," the Beast Titan muttered, its voice dripping with contempt." They haven't learned a thing from their ancestors' mistakes. What a tragedy it is... that King Reiss stripped their memories of the world. Because of that, they stumble blindly through history, repeating the same errors, over and over again".
It paused, grinding the rocks in its hand into a fine powder.
" By the end, they'll send every soul behind those walls—children, the elderly—to die in meaningless sacrifice. All in the name of their so-called pride. Fools. Their stubbornness knows no bounds".
The Beast Titan clenched its fist so tightly that the crushed rocks sifted through its fingers like sand.
" Oops," it chuckled bitterly." I crushed it into dust... Heh. What am I doing ?" Its tone shifted, mocking itself." Getting all worked up like this... You're not your father. Remember that. You're supposed to find joy in these moments. Little joys. Like turning these soldiers into proud little piles of meat".
With a twisted grin, the Beast Titan grabbed another handful of rocks, each one ready to be weaponized.
" Second barrage incoming ! Fire !". Marlowe's shout pierced the chaos as he saw the Beast Titan preparing to hurl another volley.
Signal flares streaked upward, casting brief trails of light against the smoky sky. Marlowe's breathing grew ragged, his mind racing. This was it. His end. The moment he had braced himself for. He had always known that his life would be a sacrifice, a fleeting moment of resistance in a sea of inevitability.
And yet, in his final moments, his thoughts strayed to Hitch. Was she still asleep, safe and warm in her barracks? It was absurd to think of her now, in the face of death, but somehow the thought brought a fleeting comfort.
The rocks tore through the air like vengeful meteors, shattering bones and steel alike. One struck Marlowe squarely, the force obliterating his skull and flinging his lifeless body to the blood-soaked ground. Around him, the other recruits fell in similar fashion, their charge ending in brutal finality.
The Beast Titan threw its arm into the air, cheering with grotesque satisfaction," Alright ! Game, set, match ! Hah ! Did you see that ? I even used a different throwing technique this time. No doubt about it, you're all finished now".
But then it noticed something. Three recruits, impossibly, were still charging toward it. Their horses galloped with relentless determination as they fired more signal flares, their defiance a beacon in the face of despair.
The Beast Titan's triumphant grin twisted into a snarl," What's wrong with you ? Do you really think those pathetic toys can harm me ? Do you really believe that your screams will change anything ?!".
In a fit of rage, it hurled another barrage of rocks, obliterating the last of the recruits. Their mangled bodies fell to the earth, joining the growing carpet of the dead.
