Third Person POV
Eren could only kneel, frozen in place, his wide eyes fixed on Armin's charred, lifeless body. The acrid smell of burnt flesh hung in the air, choking him as he struggled to process the scene. His trembling hands hovered just above Armin's chest, unwilling to touch, unwilling to confirm what he feared most.
Beside him, Draco stood rigid, his face pale, his gaze fixed firmly on the horizon as if he couldn't bear to look. Perhaps, in some corner of his mind, he hoped that if he didn't acknowledge it, the horror would cease to be real.
In Armin, Draco had seen a faint reflection of himself—intelligent, cautious, sometimes paralyzed by fear. But where Draco had faltered, Armin had found the strength to act. And now, as the aftermath lay before them, Draco's fists clenched at his sides. He had been too late to help, too late to save the boy who had been braver than he.
Eren's knees hit the ground with a dull thud, and his voice cracked, raw and broken," I should've known... I should've known this would happen! But all I could do was rely on you". His voice wavered, grief and self-loathing intertwining with every word." It's thanks to you that we were able to capture him. Armin, why don't you ever run away ?! Why can't you just... save yourself for once ?!".
The anguished words hung in the air like a curse, but the moment was shattered by a deep, resonant boom. The ground trembled beneath them, and both Eren and Draco snapped their heads toward the source. Smoke billowed from the distance, and through it, a massive figure began to emerge. Draco's heart raced as his eyes widened in recognition.
" A Titan !". He shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.
Eren's instincts took over. He grabbed Bertholdt's unconscious form, dragging him upright with one arm and pressing the blade of his sword against the captive's throat. His eyes burned with fury as the Titan approached, a man perched atop its shoulder like a grotesque king on a living throne.
" Don't even think about it !" Eren snarled, his voice trembling with determination." Take one more step, and I'll kill him ! I'll do it ! If it means keeping him out of your hands, I'll end him right here !".
Draco's voice was barely above a whisper as he studied the man on the Titan," That guy... Look at the markings around his eyes. I'm sure he's the Beast Titan's host".
The figure in question narrowed his gaze, surveying the scene with a calculating air before addressing Eren directly," Are you Eren Jaeger ?".
Eren didn't flinch, the blade pressing harder against Bertholdt's throat. But the man's next words sent a ripple of disbelief through him.
" You don't look anything like your father". The man continued, his tone strangely soft.
Eren froze, his breath catching in his throat," What ?".
" You have to believe me," the man insisted." I know what you're going through. We were both victims of your father. He's brainwashed you".
