After Historia's coronation, everything changed. The newly crowned queen, now affectionately known as the 'Cattle-Farming Goddess,' redirected the royal budget towards an ambitious and compassionate project. She scoured the Underground and every corner within the Walls to gather orphans and those in need, bringing them to a vast farm where they could be cared for and find a new purpose.
Levi, having emerged from the Underground himself, was her staunchest supporter. Though they both initially feared backlash from the aristocracy, the unwavering support of the people fortified Historia's decisions, silencing any dissent from the nobles.
My heart swelled with joy when Historia asked if Isaac and Eliza could be the first residents of this sanctuary. When I told them, their faces lit up with excitement at the prospect of discovering life beyond the city's confines.
Eliza's first question was whether she could see and care for cows, her enthusiasm infectious. However, I knew I had to discuss something more serious with them—Kenny and his connection to their mother, Nora.
Learning that Kenny had kidnapped them was a shock. Isaac's initial anger stemmed from his vivid memories of abandonment, but even he was touched by the news of Kenny's death, realizing they would never have a chance to confront or reconcile with him.
Yet, meeting Levi provided a glimmer of solace. The bond that quickly formed between Levi and the children was heartwarming. Their awe was palpable when they first saw the legendary Captain, and even Levi, usually so stoic, seemed to soften in their presence.
Today, in a rare moment of peace, I found myself playing with Isaac and Eliza, with Mikasa and Armin joining in.
" That's for you !". Eliza exclaimed, placing a delicate field flower in Mikasa's hair.
Mikasa blinked, taken aback, her cheeks tinged with a light blush as Armin tried to stifle his laughter.
" How adorable". I remarked, smiling warmly.
" Yes ! It's cute on Miss Mikasa !". Eliza cheered, her joy contagious.
Mikasa's blush deepened, and Armin's amusement was evident.
Suddenly, a commotion caught our attention," Back off, you're in my way !".
I turned to see Draco and Connie, side by side, glaring at each other as they struggled to move forward.
" What's happening ?". Isaac wondered aloud.
I stood, placing my hands on my hips," What are you two up to ?".
Draco and Connie froze, exchanging sheepish chuckles.
" Well," Connie began," Squad Leader Hange suggested we get something for the kids while we were in town...".
Draco, grinning mischievously, interrupted," So we picked out some gifts for Eliza and Isaac".
Eliza's eyes sparkled with excitement," Gifts ?!".
" Is Hange here too ?". Isaac asked, hopeful.
Connie shook his head," No, but they wanted to say 'hello'".
Isaac's enthusiasm dimmed slightly," That's too bad...".
Eliza, however, was insistent," Where are the gifts ?!".
I chuckled and patted her head," Be patient, sweetheart".
Connie, smiling warmly, produced a beautiful white dress," This one's for you, Eliza. I had a sister too, and I think she would have liked something like this. Squad Leader Hange said white would suit you, so... I hope you like it".
