Chapter 50: A Stalled Moment

Staring at the floor, Book twiddled her fingers, hunched over on a chair. She decided to go back to the base, avoiding the Lollipop corpse that she passed on the way. When she came back, the whole place was a mess. Not only from the fight, but it seemed that "Dora" stayed around a little longer to mess it up. The floor has mud and dirt all over it, the stairs were broken, and the chairs/couch was broken. As much as it upset her, Book had no plans to clean it up. It would take up too much time, and this was still livable, so what's the point in cleaning it up? If Saw and Gaty were to show up, well then, she would certainly clean up. That was a small chance though, as they probably don't trust this base anymore. How many times have I had to leave this base? Twice, right? Hopefully it won't be 3 times...

Book stood up and walked over to where they would usually eat food. She wouldn't call this a kitchen, as it had nothing you could use to cook a real meal like pots or pans. The best thing was a set of knives and a bunch of plates they never used. Too bad they couldn't give us some actual food. She went into the mini fridge that they supplied them with and looked into it. Although she couldn't get real food, she COULD get real water. She took a water bottle and opened it. Feeling extremely thirsty, she gulped it down, and when she stopped, only half of the water remained. She wiped her mouth on her hand and headed upstairs to her room. She thought more about the announcement 4 had given a few days ago. The final 12, I can't believe it. She wasn't the strongest contestant by far, and she never had to survive by herself before. She walked down the hallway towards her room before stopping at Lollipop's room.

Something glimmered and caught her eye. She walked in and looked for it. Finding it, she looked closer. It was that sphere that helped them find other contestants! I totally forgot! She quickly grabbed it and closed her eyes. When she opened them, she saw she was teleported into this blank room with a selection screen. She quickly scrolled down into the G section and tapped Gaty's name vigorously. Then, a picture opened up. Gaty and Saw were together, by a large body of water, a lake. Just talking and looking hungry. They aren't in our space anymore?! She remembered the layout of the dome thanks to a map that Dora had before. (How she got it? I have no clue) They were in A Better Name Than That's territory! Why'd they travel all the way over there? Was it safer? What about the team that had their base on it? She couldn't remember who was on that team, but she knew that 8-ball was still alive and on that team. Ugh, who else?!

She tried to remember but gave up. Though she couldn't remember everyone, she DID remember keeping a list of the strongest contestants. Blocky was theirs, and she knew that he wasn't with them anymore. She grinned. They were safe, everything was fine. Even if 8-ball was to attack them, she doubted that he could win against them. I need to get to them! She hurriedly packed a bag consisting of the sphere, some food, and a knife from the set and rushed outside, repeating to herself the path to get to them. She would finally find them.

David & Coiny & Eraser

"ERASER?!"

David turned at the yell. He was standing outside of Death P.A.C.T's door, where Eraser had just broken in, tackling his best friend to the ground. He heard laughter and chuckling coming from them but decided to stay outside until Coiny entered fully first. It was a while, since Eraser decided to talk to Pen while he and Coiny waited outside like sitting ducks. He felt exposed here for some reason, maybe it was from the fact that he didn't know the environment or that Eraser forced him to hide his weapons so that Pen wouldn't be alarmed. Pen couldn't even see him! Would it really matter? Finally, Coiny went inside, and David followed after. He looked around at the base and was pleased to see that the lay-out was similar to the others. Coiny had joined in on the conversation now, and David was about to say hi when he heard a clinking sound. He turned around and stared at the half-closed door, eyeing it warily.

He stepped closer to it and opened it fully. There, he saw two empty beds, one neatly folded and one messy. There were litters of small, origami swans around the messy bed too. He stepped closer to it and heard a shuffling noise in the room. He pivoted around, trying to find the source, but he couldn't pinpoint it. He started rummaging throughout the room, leaving a clutter behind. He checked the beds, underneath them, and the little table counters. He heard the door creak open and looked behind him. He heard running and sprinted after it. He quickly closed the door behind him and raced out into the middle of the base. He was stopped by Pen, who gave him a confused and casual look.

"Hey dude...David, right? Heard about you from Coiny, nice meeting you."
He stuck out his hand as a greeting, and David slowly shook it. He could feel Pen shaking and wondered why. Was he hiding something? He led David out the room and sat him somewhere near the other 2. Pen joined Eraser and Coiny and went back into the conversation. David sat silently, wondering more about Pen, staring at him with a gaze that he could see unnerved him and he stuttered more. David didn't stop until Eraser told him to, and he looked back at the room. He felt an urge to go back, to try and find the source. He knew he wouldn't trust Pen until he found out. However, once he tried to, Pen panicked.

"No! Don't! I- Uh....Have mice?"

It was silent. Pen rubbed his hand against his neck nervously while everybody looked at him with a blank stare. Then laughter erupted from Eraser and Coiny.
"HAHA! Oh, WOW Pen, mice?! Come on! There aren't any mice here." Eraser was laughing his head off while Pen looked embarrassed. They all looked distracted, so David slipped out. He went back into the room, closed the door, and made sure to lock it. There, now nobody can disturb me. He went back to where he last stood, in front of the closet.

He reached his hand out, for some reason very slowly. Whatever, just open it already! His hand gripped the doorknob, and he quickly opened it wide. He looked around, and saw an object in front of him, cracked and fragile. She was trying to shrink herself and seem peaceful. He pulled out his sickle; this was going to be quick and fast. This "game" was going on for too long, and he needed to make sure that it didn't drag out. He raised it above his head and was about to have it come down on her when he heard a rattling noise coming from the door. He flinched and stopped it. He put it down slowly and walked towards the door. He heard the door rattle even more vigorously and unlocked it. Before he could step back, the door flew open, smacking David against the door into the wall.

"Where is she?! Is she ok?!"

He looked around the room and rushed over to the closet at the sound of her voice. He took her out and placed her on the bed. Eraser and Coiny stood in the doorway confused. David rubbed his nose and walked out clumsily. Pen looked at him with a cold look he hadn't seen before from him.
"What. Did. You. DO?"

The boys reunited! But Pen doesn't seem to like David-
