Chapter 8

All he's doing is looking at me but I'm speechless.

"Well, Alex turned me into a horseshifter and I might be able to shift tomorrow. So yeah, does that answer your question?" I asked.

"Yes it does," Maximus said, getting a little closer.

Oh god, is this really happening right now?

"Well, I'll be right back. My mom thought that something was wrong but since nothing is happening, I'm gonna tell her everything is okay," I said.

I turned and ran into the house before he had a chance to reply.

"Mom?" I called out.

"Melody! Is everything okay?" she asked, coming out of her room.

"Yup! I just wanted to let you know that Beauty's okay. I guess she just wanted some attention but she's calm now," I said, laughing.

"Okay, sweetie! If you need help with anything just call me!" she said, going back to her room.

I gave her a thumbs up and decided to go back outside. Through the window, I noticed that Alex was still talking with Jonathan and Maximus was waiting for me.

I opened the door to leave but somehow, I tripped on one of the smaller steps. I closed my eyes, ready to accept my fate.

Oh no! Here goes, I'm gonna make a fool of myself. You're such a-

Suddenly, I felt someone take my hands and pull me up. I felt tingles everywhere. I opened my eyes and saw Maximus' face, inches away from mine.

"So," he asked, raising an eyebrow. "You alright there?"

I looked down and noticed that we were still holding hands. I slowly let go, realizing that I was clearly blushing.

"Uh yeah, I think so. Thank you, Maximus," I said.

"Anytime, Melody. Good thing I was here to catch you before you fell too hard," he said, winking at me.

I laughed and answered him while closing the door.

"Hmm, quite the flirty one aren't you?"

"Can't help it. You seem to bring that side out of me," he said with a smirk.

We talked for a bit more until my mom called me, saying it was find time for lunch.

"I'll be right there mom. Byee!" I said, hanging up.

"Well, it was nice to get to know you a little better," Maximus said.

"Yeah, you too," I said with a smile.

Oh my gosh, am I really falling for him?

"Alright, we better get going now too. Here's my number, Melody. You should give me a call me later," Maximus said.

He flashed me a smile and said, "See ya around."

Jonathan said bye to Alex as well and they left.

"Woah," I said dreamily.

"They're amazing right, Melody? Well, you better go inside, your mom is waiting. Catch ya later!" Alex said.

She shifted and went to her stall. I went inside my house and saw that my mom had already set up the table and was waiting for me.

"Sorry I'm late!" I said, hoping she wouldn't get mad.

Instead she said, "It's okay honey! I just sat down."

We gave thanks and started eating. Once we finished, I went upstairs to get my phone and I went outside.
