Chapter 18

We grabbed our book bags and went up to my room. Since we had some science homework to get us ready for the test some time in the future, we started doing that together.

When we were done he asked, "Hey, wanna go on a trail ride?"

"Yeah! We deserve a break after all. I'm sure my mom won't mind. I'll ask her just in case," I said.

"It's okay if she says no. I'll understand," he said.

"Max, I wanna go on a trail ride with you," I said.

I went to my mom who was laughing with Luisa and asked, "Mom, is it okay if I go on a trail ride with Max?"

"Sure honey but I have to ask you one question, are you and Max-"

"Mel, what's wrong?" Max interrupted, standing next to me in the living room.

"It's nothing, sweetie. I just wanted to know if you guys are together," my mom told him.

Max pulled me closer to him and looked at me before saying anything. I gave him a reassuring nod and he said, "Yes, we are."

Luisa looked confused.

"But honey, didn't you tell me that you guys are just best friends?"

"Yes, but now we're clearly more than that," he said smiling at me and then looking at our mothers.

They both had about the same reactions. They both smiled and congratulated us.

Then I said, "Mom, we should get going now before it gets dark."

"Okay, but what horse will Max use?"

"Do you mind if he uses Buttercup?" I asked.

I explained to her how we were having a competition on who could ride the fastest without getting any faults and how I noticed that they had such a close connection with each other.

My mom thought about it for a moment until she said, "Okay, just call me if you guys need anything."

"Will do, mom," I said, showing her my phone fully charged.

"Byee, have fun!" she said, smiling.

"Byee!" I said, hugging her and then Luisa.

"Bye!" Max said.

We left and started tacking up the horses. Then I mounted on Beauty and Max mounted on Buttercup.

"Come on, I know these woods pretty well and I've seen a beautiful waterfall," Max said.

"Cool, where is it?" I asked, excited.

"Just follow me m'lady!" he said, playfully.

We rode our horses for a couple of minutes when I started to see some water from a distance.

"Woah, what's that?" I asked, amazed.

Max automatically put his hand over my eyes and said, "Close your eyes! I don't want you to see it yet!"

"Whyyy?" I asked, giggling.

"Don't worry, you'll love it. I'll lead Beauty," he said.

I felt him get a hold of my reins and started leading Beauty towards what I thought must've been the waterfall.

After a while, he finally stopped.

"You can open your eyes now, Mel," he said, sweetly.

I opened my eyes to see the most beautiful waterfall I had ever seen.

"Oh my gosh, this is beautiful!"

My voice echoed across the roaring waterfall.

"I told you it was going to be amazing!" he replied.

"Thanks, Max! this is the best trail ride ever!"

"And why's that, Mel?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well one because I'm with you, two because this is the sweetest thing anyone's ever done for me, and three because the view is breathtaking," I said, giving him a soft kiss on the lips.

"You're breathtaking, Mel," Max whispered.

I blushed and we both dismounted our horses.

Max pulled me into a warm embrace and kissed me back. Our lips moved at exactly the same pace and it was as if it was my dream come true.

I have a perfect boyfriend who cares about me and is super sweet. Seriously, am I dreaming right now?

We stayed kissing until he tried to deepen it and I automatically pulled away.

"I'm sorry, Max. I don't think I'm ready for that yet," I said.

"No need to apologize, Mel. I understand," he said pecking my lips one last time.

"We should be going home now. Maybe I can convince my mom to let you stay for dinner," I said.

"That would be amazing," he said, smiling at me.
