Chapter 16

"Come on girl, let's show him what we're made of."

We were for sure going to win. I was laughing at the fact that Beauty had her head up high with pride. I searched for my stopwatch to time him. I finally found it after a bit.

"Ready, set, .... GO!" I shouted.

I automatically started the stopwatch and he started at a trot. The first jump was getting closer. He jumped and he made it!

So far so good.

He was at 0:25. There were a couple more jumps left.

He made the second jump quickly but gracefully. I didn't know that he was so good at jumping. He easily made the next jump and was moving to the last jump.

Max was at 1:20. He got Buttercup to canter to the next jump and they made it. I stopped the stopwatch to see a timing of 1:30.

"How'd I do?" he asked.

"Not bad, 1:30 but I know I'm going to beat you." I said, confidently.

"Good luck. Let's see what you can do," he said, gently taking the stopwatch from me.

"Thanks!" I replied, mounting on Beauty.

We walked to the front, ready to start.

"Ready, set, .... GO!" he shouted.

I lightly kicked Beauty's sides and we started at started at a canter. I counted the strides in my head.

3, 2, 1, .... up!

We made the first jump and cantered to the next jump. We made it easily. I hoped we were winning. The last jump was the easiest of all. We made it easily and then we were finished.

"What's our time? What's our time?" I asked, excited.

"1:20, you guys were amazing. I can't believe you beat me by 10 seconds!" he said, shocked.

"I'm a pretty good rider but you are too. You and Buttercup looked great together. It was like you had known each other for a long time. Whenever you guys jumped, you were connected," I complimented him.

I dismounted Beauty and walked up to Max. We stayed there just staring back at each other for a long time. I drowned in his beautiful dark brown eyes.

I hugged him and he hugged back. I pulled away and said, "Well, let's get Beauty and Buttercup back in their stalls. My mom is gonna be amazed at the fact that you rode her horse."

"What's so impressive about being able to ride her horse?" he asked, curious.

"Buttercup isn't very nice around new people but around you, people would think that you guys are the best of friends," I said.

He smiled, "Well thank you, Mel."

"Anytime."

Once we reached the stables, we quickly put Beauty and Buttercup in each of their stalls. Then Max led me back to the lake. Once we got there he said, "Mel, I've been wanting to ask you this question for quite a while. I'm not sure how to say this, though."

"It's okay, Max. No matter what it is, I'll understand," I said, reassuringly.

"Well, okay. Mel... would you be my girlfriend?" he asked, looking at me straight in the eyes.

My eyes widened. I was speechless.

"Oh my god, Max I- yes, yes of course I want to be your girlfriend!" I shouted, smiling.

He smiled back and he pulled me into a warm embrace.

Then, he quickly got closer to me and kissed me but this kiss was different. He kissed me passionately and with lots of love. I kissed back with lots of love as well, holding him by his shoulders and he slowly put his hands on my waist. I felt sparks everywhere and then I felt the kiss getting stronger and stronger.

I loved it but we both had to pull away for lack of air.

"Max?" I asked, intertwining our hands.

"Yes, Mel?" he asked, smiling at me.

"I'm glad you're my boyfriend. I mean you understand me, you're sweet, and I mean, what more could I ask for?" I asked.

"Nothing, I'm also glad you're my girlfriend. I've been wanting to ask you that question but I didn't know what you'd say. I know now," he said, planting a soft kiss on my cheek.

I giggled softly.

Hey guys! So, Max and Mel are officially boyfriend and girlfriend! Isn't that cute?! I love it. Well I have to go. Thanks people for reading my book.
