"Maria it's me, Max. Listen, we have a big problem."
"What do you mean a big problem? What happened?" she asked, worried.
"Well, one of the bullies at our school, Veronica, started hurting Mel for some reason. Thankfully, my friend Jason and I made her go away. We now have Mel but we need you to come here. She is severely injured. I can't bear to lose her," I said, my voice shaking.
"I'll be right there just tell me where you are and don't move," she said, her voice turning serious.
"We're walking to the parent pick up lane. We'll meet you there," I said.
"Alright. Once I get there, you kids have to go to class, okay? Let me handle this."
"Maria, please. Your daughter is the love of my life and I can't bear not knowing about her until after school. You have to let me come. I'll make up for my school work. I promise," I said, trying to convince her.
"Wow, Max. It makes me happy to know that you're there for her. In that case, I'll let you come. I'll be there in a few minutes. Wait for me there," she said and hung up.
"So, this is your mate?" Brad asked.
"Yeah, I can't bear to see her like this. Veronica, will pay for this. I'm telling the principal so they can get her expelled and we never have to see her again," I said, furiously.
I carried Mel bridal style while Jason took her book bag.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll get what she deserves," he said.
"Thanks for the help. Sorry for making you skip class," I said.
"Nah it's cool, man. I'm glad I could help. Besides that was math class so you saved me. Hardest thing ever I tell ya!" he said.
I laughed softly.
I saw Mel's mom pull up into the parking lot.
"Well Jason, thanks again. I'll see ya around," I said.
"Stay strong for her. I'm sure she'll be okay," he said, giving me a thumbs up.
I carried Mel and put her book bag on my back while walking to her car.
"Oh god, Max! Hurry, get in the car! You and Mel go in the back seats so you can keep an eye on her," Maria said, frantically.
I listened to her instructions and put Mel inside, sitting next to her. I buckled up her seatbelt and did the same with mine. I leaned her head on my shoulder, watching over her during the entire car ride. I had to admit, I was really scared for her.
Please be okay, Mel. I can't lose you. I can't.
After a couple more minutes, we pulled up to the hospital. I would've preferred to go over to the pack house doctor since Mel's a horse shifter and heals differently but we had no choice if we wanted to keep the secret.
