It felt like a tradition, from one shifter to another.

~A few weeks later~

My mom already found her mate and they are going out on a date right now! I'm so happy for them. Rick, her mate seems like a really nice mate for mom. He's funny, sweet, caring, and loves her with all his heart. I can tell mom really loves him.

One day, I caught them making out on the living room couch and teased, "Guys, go get a room!"

Both of them got out of each others arms and blushed.

"Sorry honey, I didn't mean to-"

I stopped her.

"Mom, you don't have to apologize. Sorry for ruining the moment. And don't worry, I was just kidding. You guys shouldn't be embarrassed. You love each other and that's all that matters," I said, smiling at her.

"Thanks, honey. I don't know what I'd do without you," she hugged me tightly for a moment before going back to Rick.

His eyes were turning puffy.

"Rick, are you crying?" I asked, joking around.

He instantly rubbed his eyes and said, "No, I'm just a little tired. You know me."

I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Fine, you got me. You look exactly like your mom and it's touching when you hug. I'm really sorry about what happened with your dad, Mel. I know I can't replace him but I'll work hard every day to make sure your mom is happy."

"It's okay, Rick. I'm glad my mom has you. Ever since you came into her life, she's been a lot happier and I can't thank you enough. Anyway, I'll let you get back to where you left off, love birds!"

I had gone to my room to finish 'Black Beauty' and then went to sleep.

Right now, my mom was putting on a little bit of make up when she turned to me and said, "Mel, I don't want you to be bored and not doing anything while Rick and I are gone so I called Max's mom and told her to come pick you up at 7:30 pm so you can get to know Max's family better."

I smiled at her.

"Thanks, mom. You look beautiful. No wonder Rick couldn't get enough of you," I said and chuckled softly.

"Well, thank you, sweetie. I should be going now. Take good care of yourself okay?"

"Okay, mom. Don't worry about me. Now go and have fun!" I said and gave her a hug.

She laughed softly.

"Bye sweetie! We'll pick you up at Max's house! We love you!" she shouted and went inside Rick's car.

I waved goodbye to them and then called Max on my phone. It was 7:19 pm. After a few rings, he picked up.

"Hey, Mel," Max answered in a husky voice.
