Chapter 2
Frozen.
That's how I stood in front of the gigantic and fine establishment of New York University. The atmosphere on campus was electric and spirited.
The edifice of the dormitory screamed luxury. I never had the opportunity to live in a dorm room before because I attended community college previously, and the distance was far too close for me to live in dorms. Additionally, it's not like my mother would have allowed me to stay.
After numerous times inhaling and exhaling, I detached my feet from the firm concrete of New York University.
I already had possession of the key, which was mailed to me, and the only thing I had to do was discover the location of the dormitory room. I had detected a map of the entire institute at the entrance, which was incredibly beneficial for lost people like me.
I commenced striding through the massive campus, passing numerous student bodies. People were in their little bubbles; some were conversing, and some were fooling around. This was nothing new; moreover, it's a story of every university. Close to the tree, I saw a youth whom I reckoned to be a junior. He was being teased by some senior boys, and they were laughing at him.
He was being bullied.
This was the thing I disliked most about universities: being bullied by people. People don't realize how their actions for pleasure could leave behind scars on the person that will be ingrained for a long time or perhaps for a lifetime.
My train of thought terminated as the wheel of my suitcase fumbled and struck. Halting, diligently, I commenced inspecting the wheels and pushing them back and forth for any momentum in an attempt for the wheels to work again.
A masculine voice originated from behind, distracting my focus.
"Ah, trouble in paradise, need help?"
Shifting my attention from the suitcase, I cocked my head in the direction of the same sound and was greeted by brown eyes that were filled with amusement.
"It got stuck, and it isn't moving," I said, hesitantly.
The boy smirked; there was an unlit cigarette dangling in his mouth, and the tattoo was over his body, piercing his lips and eyebrows. He was a handsome male species without any doubt, but also precisely the person whom your parents tell you to stay away from. He gazed down at the suitcase, took the handle from my hand, and cursed as he tried to move it back and forth.
"Please don't bother. I will manage, thank you." I tried to politely decline his help, but he paid no heed to my words and continued with his work. Surprisingly, the wheel started shifting, and in no time, the suitcase was working as smoothly as it had on the first day I brought it.
I looked at him as he handed me the handle with the smirk still plastered on his face.
"Try to stay out of trouble, you won't always find a prince to save you in distress," he joked.
"Huh- thank you for the help," I said a little awkwardly, as I didn't know what to respond.
He nodded.
Despite his rowdy appearance, he seems a pleasant person, or I could say a gentleman too, observing how he helped a stranger.
" Well, I am Holden." He said, brushing his hair and stretching his hand forward for me to shake.
"Emerald."
Providing him with a small smile, I held his hand in a light, short acknowledgment.
"Haven't seen you before," he seemed a bit curious, and the anxiety kicked in and spread in my body.
