The silence welcomed me as soon as I entered the house, quietness was nothing new in this enormous mansion where a single occupant only dwells here. Slowly and quietly, I wandered through the hallways to look for Aiden.

Perhaps he was in the office doing his paperwork.

Quickly, I glided upstairs where again a desolate room greeted me. I launched to rummage room after room and floor after floor, just when I was passing by Aiden's room, a loud ragging ringing of the phone reached my ears, unlocking the door I entered the room. In the darkness, the only light illuminating was the mobile phone which was furiously ringing.

It was Aiden's phone.

Now it was clearer that he is in the house because he can't leave his phone alone. Yes, he was a phone addict.

I collected the phone from the table and glanced at it

Grace.

Why was she calling him? Maybe to invite him to one of their parties, lately, her days and nights are spent drinking and parties or sitting absent-mindedly mainly in one corner, she neither tries to talk, and when someone attempts to communicate, she just gives a one-worded answer. I placed the phone on my ear to answer the phone as a small smile played on my lips.

"Why were you not answering my fucking call?" She started before I could greet her. "Aiden, did you think about what I told you? You know that you will regret your decision in later years, think about it clearly."

My smile fell.

What was she talking about, what will Aiden regret in later years?

" Hey Grace, it's me, Emerald. Aiden forgot his phone in his room."

There was a brief silence.

"Okay, tell him to call me back," she muttered, sharply. The hard tone she used astonished me. Why was she acting so distant and cold?

"Huh...okay." I paused. "So, how you have been?"

Silence.

A long silence.

It took me a few moments to realize that she had disconnected the call. I stood there in perplexity, and my mind began to wonder about what happened to her. Maybe she was occupied with some work and I knew how excited and in haste, she always was while doing some work or probably, she was just being moody. I didn't ponder over her words more and once again set to find Aiden with my mind obtuse with thousands of questions.

As I was plodding in the entire house, a sweet aroma drifting in the air lured me toward the kitchen, where I found Aiden cooking the food.

At the entrance, I stood checking his fine features, he appeared sharp and chiseled, which melted my heart. His muscles shift with every movement of his hand, at that very moment, I wished I didn't meet Venessa so my head wouldn't be ruptured with myriad questions. I could be in his arms, safe and sound.

Perhaps, he might have felt my burning gaze on him because he spun revealing his perfect set of teeth, and that gleam of joy glinting in his eyes took my breath away.

Why? Why did he have to be so perfect, Why I was put in such a position when I know there is going to be a dire outcome?

" I was waiting for you, the dinner is ready and today I made your favorite, spaghetti and for dessert it's pancake." He tramped to me and placed his hand on my cheeks while placing a soft kiss on my forehead. For a very long moment, I kept gazing into his eyes, perhaps I was vying to find comfort in his gaze.

" Grace called you, she told you to call her back," I said, showing him his phone.

His shoulders stiffened.
