The following dawn started with good spirits. I made a very strong coffee. We had a small kitchen which was stored with all essentials. I did my customary things quickly, there was plenty of time before I had to leave for college, so I decided to sit in my room.

A day had gone by and still no call from my mother. My last thread of hope was breaking, maybe she really doesn't care about me anymore.

I heard a groan from another side, making me know that Grace was awake. I quickly remove some pills that would help with her hangover. Taking the bottle from the kitchen, I went to her side of room, she sat on the bed with her hands around head.

"Grace," I called out and she glanced my way. I handed are pills and water which she greedily swallowed. Her appearance was blooming, even though having a wild night.

" Thank you, it feels like someone is jabbing needles in my head," she whined.

" Well, that's what alcohol does." I declared, with a small smile playing on my lips.

Her eyes lazily took in my appearance.

"How can you manage to be enthusiastic early in the morning," she asked the rhetorical question.

She looked around observing her surroundings.

"Bastards, fucking bloody bastards. Again, left me to clean their mess," she groaned while grabbing an empty bottle of a beer can.

The place had become a lot filthier than earlier, and it will be certainly a trouble to clean it up all alone.

" I will help to clean." I offered, and without waiting for her answer, I started picking up the scattered clothes.

The silence fell over as we collected the trash and tidy the room.

" You know what, You have to get used to all these things, what happened last night is nothing in front of what you have to look forward to, people here are like this, selfish and try to find as much entertainment in people's misery," Grace said, after a few minutes into cleaning.

Her words were sober and lacing a warning behind them, nevertheless, her hands were still concentrating on the task.

" Finding entertainment in other's misery is so wrong, don't you think so?" I asked

"So what are you going do about it? Life is never a fairytale, it's unfair, you will confront people like us in every corner of the world, and each time it will get worse unless and until you accept it and learn to adapt it. " She looked straight into my eyes. Truth is always bitter, and her words were true.

At that time, I comprehended her exterior, it was just a show. The tattoos, piercings, and foul mouth were for rebel, rebellion against the world. Underneath lived the person who was witty and had seen awfully hardships of life.

Roaring laughter brought me out of my trance.

" Don't stress your brain a lot about things, just enjoy, like we do here. Loose yourself. Get drunk, senselessly fuck and have fun." She said lightly changing the subject. Her words make me uncomfortable.

" I think your friends despise me," I blurted out.

" They despise everyone, don't bother about them."

After that we engaged ourselves in cleaning which we finished just precisely before time to leave for my first day at the University.

" Aren't getting ready for your classes?" I asked, noticing her resupine on the bed with a beer can in one hand.

" No, I will skip today." She took a sip from the can. How can she afford to skip a day in the final year, I gaped.

But it was none of my business to question her so I carried on with my business

Strolling through the hallways, I was searching for my class. I had enough time with me because I was pretty early and the class was not going to start until twenty minutes. Finally, I found the class but was greeted with a vacant room.

Guess, I was earlier than necessary, I thought.

However, reaching early have its own advantage, as we can choose where we wanted to sit; be safe from the embarrassment of being late and lastly, you can avoid unwanted attention. I took sit near the window in the far corner so I would be unnoticeable, and to kill time I started reading a book. As I was in midst of reading, suddenly, someone tapped on my shoulder, When I perked up and a girl with brown eyes, a model-like figure, but short in height, in other words, beautiful like an angel was looking at me.

"You are sitting in my place but we can always share," she said, politely. And before I could have said anything, she sat beside me.

I look around and saw that the class started to fill with students.

"Hello, my name is Lucy," she introduced herself, joyful energy radiating from her.

"Emerald, and I am sorry, I didn't know this was your place."

"It's totally fine, none of my friends share this class with me, I am so grateful, now that I have you here." she started babbling, a smile took place on my lips seeing her enthusiasm while talking with the stranger.

" By the way, I haven't seen you before," she stated, making my smile wipe off completely.

"It's my first day," I was feeling anxious because I knew she would definitely going ask questions regarding this subject and to which I have no answer, but to my surprise professor strode in, and I was saved from interrogation.

Silence fell around the class.

"I'm professor Walters and until graduation, we will be working together as Mrs. Thompson has left for some personal reason." the professor stated.

"I hate him," Lucy mumbled from beside me. I laughed at her silly behavior. "Is he that bad?" I asked, thinking if he was one of those evil teachers.

"Wait until he gives you a load of assignments," she whined.

The class commenced, and the professor was deep in explaining the context when unexpectedly, there was an opening of the door, and everyone's gaze fell on the intruder including mine that waddled inside.

Aiden.

He appeared like a piece of rare art, beautiful, with defined fine jaws, a hard face, and forest green eyes standing at the entrance.

"Mr. Stallard, you are quite late." Professor Walters asserted.

"So?" His beetle-browed knitted in frustration.

"So? You aren't permitted to sit in this class," the professor announced in a tranquil manner even though he was displeased with Aiden's behavior.

" I will attend this class, stop me if you can." A ferocious smirk plastered on his face, and without waiting for the professor to retort he made his way into the classroom leaving a red face professor behind.

While walking through the aisle, his gaze fell over me and his smirk wiped out of his face and a blank expression took over.

My heart thumped frantically in my chest.

Instantly, I averted my gaze, not able to look into his enchanting eyes.

I wondered, how can he so easily get away with behaving like this with the professor, I didn't have to contemplate more as Lucy started providing me with an explanation.

"It happens every time, Aiden likes to challenge everyone because he knows he will not get in trouble."

"Why?" confusion and curiosity made house inside my head.

"He doesn't care about anything and being rich was an advantage to get out smoothly from any circumstance, he pays massive amounts to the college fund. None of the teachers like his uncouthness, but you know what he is extremely brilliant, always ace academically."

This makes whole sense a lot, he can easily stop funding college. He typical rich boy who thinks that the world would worship his feet. My gaze fell over him and to my surprise, his cold and calculating eyes were speculating me already.

His jaw clenched, he glared at me and turned away talking to some guy beside him.

What was his problem?

I reckoned it was better to stay away from his path.
