Bad to the Bone

You tap your hands against your steering wheel to the music quietly thumping from the radio and stare around the empty school parking lot, occasionally glancing at the main doors and urging them to open so you can go.
Eddie told you they'd be done by 9 and you'd made him promise as such, yet when you check your watch it's already 9:30 and still there was no sign of him or anyone else.
"That fucking game" you mutter to yourself, turning your keys in the ignition and letting your car grow silent as you shut it off and decide to go in and find out what the fuck is taking so long.

The halls are dark and eerie when you enter them and the silence that feels so alien in this setting, one you're used to being so bright and bustling, makes you shiver.
You walk through the school past dark classrooms, expecting to see anyone around but it seems to be just you and for a moment you wonder if you got your day wrong and you've wound up alone in a deserted school... exactly the way a horror movie would start.
Relief floods through you when you hear an uproar of voices cheering and whooping, you follow the sound to the door with soft lighting pouring from the frosted window and shove it open, all the boys stood around the large white table cease their celebration and turn towards you, even Eddie looks a little sheepish when he sees how unimpressed you are.
"I've been waiting for you for half an hour. Are you almost done?" You snap and all the boys look at Eddie, expecting an explosion or at least some level of distaste at your tone but instead a surprised grin tugs his lips upwards and you'd almost think he was impressed by the audacity of you walking into his space and reprimanding him like this in front of his friends.
"Just finishing up, sweetheart" he says, his voice calm but you can hear that mysterious surprise behind it, one of fascination that you can sense when you do something he doesn't expect.
You step into the room and fold your arms over your chest, staring daggers at Eddie while they all tidy away their stuff. One thing you hated was waiting and Eddie knew that, you'd already had to come back out to pick him up tonight because his fucking van had broken down yet again, the least he could have done was been on time.

The rest of Hellfire Club breeze past you as they leave, all of them muttering goodbye. You offer a smile to Gareth that he returns, you admit to yourself it was nice to see him back and there was definitely a difference in the air with him included. Like the whole team was back together, the way it belonged.
You tap your foot on the floor as Eddie approaches you and as soon as he's within touching distance he holds his palms against your cheeks.
"I'm sorry sweetheart, it ran a little later than I expected" he soothes before he kisses you softly and you hate how quickly you melt.
As much as you adored Mean Eddie, soft Eddie can be just as endearing.
"It's ok, can we go now? I hate how buildings like this feel at night" you shudder.
He slips his hand into yours and you walk slowly down the halls, your entangled fingers held together tightly and swinging between you as you meander through the school in a comfortable silence until you reach Mr Mundys class and you remember what happened that day and why you were already in a bad mood before you'd even left school earlier.
"He confiscated my walkman today" you seethe, pointing towards the dark classroom door with Mr Mundys name across the bottom of the window.
"Were you using it?" Eddie asks as you come to a stop.
"No, it was on my desk while I sorted my books out and he assumed, I think" you shrug.
Eddie moves closer to the door and turns the handle slowly and to your surprise it nudges open.
"Holy shit he didn't lock it" you whisper and Eddie gives you a mischievous grin.
"Want to get it back?" He asks with a raised eyebrow.
You hesitate, he'd left the door open, sure, but you were bound to get in way more trouble doing this than just having it confiscated. But the look in Eddies eye and the daring smile he's flashing you feed your adrenaline and lead both of you into the classroom and over to Mr Mundys desk.

You walk behind it and gently pull at the handle on the top drawer which slides open with ease and sure enough there's your Walkman, glinting in the light beaming in from the floodlights outside and giving the classroom a silvery glow in patches where the windows loomed.
"Got it! Let's go" You whisper, heading back towards the door but Eddies hand wraps around your wrist as you brush past him and pulls you back in front of him.
His hands slide over your neck and you feel the pads of his thumbs stroke your jawline softly while he stares into your eyes, a subtle smile on his lips but you see it, that darkness in his gaze that makes your stomach flip.
"I love you more than words can ever express and I'd do anything for you" he whispers, his left hand combing through your hair and his right moving onto your neck and upwards, cradling your face in the crook of his hand and suddenly he grasps both, yanking your head back and upwards to face him.
"But if you ever speak to me like that in front of our friends again I will make them watch the punishment you get" he hisses.
