The Doctor and I had gone to San Francisco together to see one of his old friends, Grace. I heard briefly about her, but he talked about her a lot and it seemed like a better time than any. "Doctor? You're back!" Grace smiled, as she ran to him and they hugged, she was beautiful, I almost felt jealous seeing them together. "Grace, I want you to meet someone special. This is y/n. She's been travelling with me for the past two years." She smiled, "Good to meet you." I smiled, "Pleasure's mine." The Doctor held my hand the entire time, he knew I was anxious about this and he always made me feel calm. "I'll be right back, okay?" He let go of my hand, as he went off somewhere, I sat on a bench and watched the sky. "Did the Doctor tell you what happened between us?" Grace sat next to me, "Not really, he just mentioned you saved the world together." She nodded, "Well, he kissed me. Twice, actually." I frowned, "He never told me that." I couldn't tell if she was trying to be nice or if she wanted to spite me. "I don't want to get in between you two, really. I don't. But, this doesn't have to be awkward, does it?" I shake my head, "No, it doesn't. It was before we met, anyway. It's in the past." She nodded, "I'm engaged, anyway." I was a bit surprised, "Oh wow, really?" She showed me her ring, "That's beautiful. The doctor told me about Bryan, but he was your ex?" She sighed, "We worked it out, eventually. True love comes back at the strangest times." I look over at the Doctor, "I guess it does." I look back at her. "Are you and him?"

"No! God, no. Not at all." She gave me this look, I'd seen it before. "Oh come on, those mushy eyes. Totally seen it." I laughed, "I'd prefer if you didn't say anything." She smiled, "My lips are sealed, as long as you don't say about my engagement." I nodded, "Promise." The Doctor came back to us, "So, how's life been?" He sat in between us, as she hid her hand, so he couldn't see the ring. "Work's been crazy, you know how it is. I love being here, seems like you got yourself a great girl there." He smiled, "She's the best." Eventually, we were getting ready to go and they both hugged each other. "I'll see you around, Grace. I'll come back, one day." She watched us both, "Look after him, y/n." I look at him, "Promise." We both went back into the TARDIS, I closed the doors as I walked over to the console. "What did you guys talk about?" He asked. "Not a lot, mostly about you." I went to sit on the chair, as he watched me. "Y/n, I know about the ring. I clocked on as soon as we left the TARDIS." I sighed, "She didn't want to make a fuss, Doctor. Not everyone does." I play with my hands, "People move on, I know that. I guess I should of known she would." I look back, "So, you failed to mention you kissed her?" He ran a hand through his hair. "Y/n, it was years ago. Before I even met you, it was nothing. I swear. I just regenerated and I was confused, it was just a kiss." I nodded, "I'm not upset, Doctor. I get it, it's fine. I mean, I've kissed tons of guys before I met you."

"Tons?" I sighed gently, "It's a figure of speech. Look, it doesn't matter. It's the past, if you have feelings for her, that's different.. but this is now. I'm now." He looked back at the console, "I never had any romantic connection with her, y/n. She was the only person that stopped this world from ceasing to exist. She saved my life, that's why I'm grateful." I stand up, "I'm going to head to bed, goodnight." I turn when he grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him. "Please just listen to me." I pull my arm back, "Doctor, I don't need you to explain what happened between you and her. It doesn't matter." He grabbed my face and he kissed me, suddenly, I completely forgot everything I was thinking. He pulled away, "Just, shut up and listen to me." I blinked, still shocked. "I love you, y/n. I've always loved you, it doesn't matter to me what you did in the past, because you're all I need. Right here, with me." I take a breath, "I love you too, Doctor. Grace knew I did, she wanted me to tell you." He smiled a little, "Good, I'm glad I know." I hug him tightly, as he held me in his arms and I knew.

I knew we would be fine.
