Adriana
Chapter Twenty-Two
An hour after Niall had left me behind, Larr was sitting across from me, playing his ukulele and singing in the worst voice on earth. Tragically, he thought it would be a great idea to play It's Friday by Rebecca Black. Shoot me now.
"It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday!" Larr sang in a screechy voice.
"No! Stop it! Quit torturing me already!" I screamed, clapping my hands over my ears. "I'd rather be deaf than hear you sing that horrible excuse of a song."
And if he doesn't shut up soon, I will be deaf. I don't want to learn sign language! No!
"What'cha mean, 'torturing'? Me sing like pretty angels. Don't ya like singing angels, silly girl?" asked Larr, pausing from his singing and guitar stringing to answer me. Based on the look on his face, he seemed confused and shocked that I hated his "singing".
I sighed irritatedly. "Ugh, stop your mumbling already! And you know, I have a name. It's Adriana, not 'silly little girl.'"
"Me don't think so," Larr remarked, wagging his index finger at me like I was a child.
That man makes me want to scream. Why does he have to be so stupid?
Larr and I randomly went into this really weird staring contest. I've always been pretty awesome at staring (not to sound creepy), so I was sure I'd beat Larr in a heartbeat.
Not so much.
He just would not blink. At all. I was ready to cheat and snap my fingers in front of his eyes so I wouldn't have to admit defeat, but my burning, stinging eyes snapped shut before I could try.
"Aha! I win! I win I win I win! Yippie!" Larr shouted excitedly. He climbed to his feet and started to joyfully run around the area, hugging anything he possibly could, from garden gnomes to a tree stump, to even the grass. That man sure couldn't get enough of nature, apparently. He's such a tree hugger.
"Na uh!" I whined, crossing my arms across my chest. "I just . . . got dust in my eyes. Yeah, that's it. I was the real winner."
It took me a moment to realize that I was acting like a completely baby. Seriously, what eighteen year old whines about losing a staring contest? Apparently I do.
Larr stopped his cheering and whipped around, staring at me creepily. He slowly stepped towards me, which made me desperately want to run away, but that's not exactly possible when you're handcuffed to a building. Larr crouched down next to me and reached into this pocket. At first, I had absolutely no idea what he was grabbing, but then I saw a silver key between his fingers.
He inserted the key into the handcuff that was chaining me to the shack and unlocked it. But because Larr had a strong grip on my wrist, I couldn't attempt to run away, and even if I did, I'd still have one handcuff locked on my wrist. Larr swiftly locked the handcuff on my other wrist again, only this time behind my back like I was a prisoner in jail.
"It's time ta feed dah wolfies! Mr. Tasty Bacon Strips will finally live freely!" Larr declared excitedly.
He began to lead me away from the shack, to who knows where. In the distance, I could see the sun was starting to set, and there were pretty pink hues in the sky. It would be dark soon. Larr was really going through with this "wolf bait" plan.
Great. Just wonderful. Ugh, why couldn't I be stuck with a normal old man in the wilderness? Life is just not fair sometimes.
Larr pushed me across the large meadow. We kept on walking until we reached the edge of the clearing, where there were two lone trees close to the start of the forest.
