Chapter Twenty-One
"Carrot!"
A second later, Louis was towering over me with Carrot cuddled in his arms. "I've missed you so much, Carrot. I can't believe you found me! We must have telepathy powers!"
I seriously doubt that. They weren't exactly twins . . . .
"Sienna, what are you still doing on the ground?" he asked. "Come on, get up! We have to go share the good news with Samacha and Harry!"
"But what about the squirrel traps?" I asked.
Louis rolled his eyes, as if it was crazy that I was even thinking about food right now. "Forget the squirrels! We found Carrot. This is the best news I've heard since Psy's Gangnam Style became the most watched music video on YouTube!"
I shook my head at Louis, but I didn't protest. Carrot did make him extremely happy.
We walked all the way back to camp, Louis looking like he was about to explode in happiness the entire time. He was a little too emotionally attached to Carrot, I'm afraid. It also kind of worried me that he wouldn't stop talking to Carrot like she was a person. Please tell me he's not one of those crazy cat ladies in disguise.
"Carrot, I've missed you so much," Louis rambled. "Did you miss me? Oh, of course you did. I'm your daddy after all." He started to pat Carrot's belly and he beamed at her like she was the love of his life and he hadn't seen her in years. "Where have you been all this time? Oh, really? That sounds like a lot of fun, but why couldn't I have come with you?"
"Louis," I interrupted nervously, "please tell me you're not conversing with a cat. I thought you were mentally stable!"
Louis raised an eyebrow at me. "What's wrong with talking to a cat? They're cuddly and nice! And they always listen to you, unlike some weird people."
Well, I'm sure if cats could talk, they'd tell their owners to shut the heck up already. My cat back home, Mr. Fluffagans, would probably tell me to stop changing in my room when he's there . . . . Whenever I did that, he'd always give me this creepy death glare. He's probably like a cat perv or something.
"Anyways, you've missed out on a lot of news, Carrot," Louis continued. He was still grinning at that poor cat. Louis really needed a hobby that didn't involve creeping out poor, innocent fluffy creatures. "You'll be glad to hear that that monster, Ben, disappeared. He always seemed to provoke you. I have no idea why - but then again, he drives everyone a little mad, doesn't he?"
Oddly, when Louis shared that bit of news about Ben with Carrot, she perked up in his arms and started to meow happily. It was like she had understood what he was saying and was cheering. What an odd coincidence . . . .
Just then, we walked back into camp. Louis really seemed to make our walk go by quick. Those ten minutes really flew by.
"Harry, Harry, come over here!" Louis shouted. Harry was busy flirting with Samacha across camp. She must have finally come to her senses, because she was wearing a t-shirt over her bikini top now. They both looked up at us in surprise after hearing Louis's persistent screaming. "I found Carrot!"
More like Carrot found him. Or me. I mean, she did make me fall off that log in surprise. It's not like I just randomly flip off seats for fun. Well, I did once when I was six and I was having this huge tantrum over a Dora the Explorer lollipop, but besides then I've never done that.
