Chapter Two

Oh my gosh.  Those three words kept repeating themselves over and over again in my head.  This cannot be happening!  I love planes, I mean, who doesn't?  And now, when I was so excited to be on one, it decides to fall out of the sky on me?

When I glanced at Sienna, my eyes widened even more.  She fainted, and water was starting to pour into the airplane quickly.  We had to escape.

"Ben," I said urgently.  "Grab Sienna!  We need to get out of this airplane now, and I don't think she'll be waking up anytime soon."

"Ugh, why me?" Ben complained, whining like a baby.  I swear, he made everything a big deal.  He was worse than a four year old, and let me tell you, they're no picnic.

"Because you're a guy," I snapped.  When Ben raised his eyebrows at me I glanced at my feet and added quietly, "and I just had my nails done.  Jeez."

Thankfully, Ben didn't protest any longer.  He sprang out of his seat and shuffled past me, reaching Sienna and throwing her over his shoulder like she weighed nothing.  Hmm, maybe Ben finally decided to do more than dance along to Just Dance 2 as his daily workout.

I paused before walking out of the row we were sitting in.  A huge pine tree was in the aisle and blocking our path to the airplane's door, which was our only escape.

"Climb over the tree, smarty-pants!" Ben yelled from behind me.

"I knew that," I replied defensively.

"Oh sure you did," Ben retorted.  I could just tell he rolled his eyes at me, even if I couldn't see him.

Without wasting another minute, I jumped onto the tree blocking our path and climbed across it.  I was really glad we were in the back of the plane and near an emergency exit.  We didn't have to climb across the tree very far to reach the door.  I don't know how Ben managed to carry Sienna and shuffle across the tree at the same time, but he did.

I slid off of the tree and rushed to the emergency exit door.  I tried to open it, but it stayed shut.  It wouldn't budge.

"It won't open!" I shouted in complete fear.

"Move over," Ben grumbled, shoving me to the side.

I scowled at him and crossed my arms, but I allowed him to try to open it.  I mean, this is a life or death situation.  It's better to be quick on decisions, unless you want to die young, which would be so tragic!

Somehow, Ben had managed to open the airplane's door.  Cool water rushed into the airplane, giving us little time to escape.  Ben jumped out and into the lake with me following close behind.  He had one arm hanging onto Sienna, with the other flailing around like a crazy penguin trying to fly.  Okay, I really need to know what he does to exercise.  It cannot be Just Dance.  Maybe Wii Fit?

Once we were out of the sinking plane and into the cool lake, water rushed up my nose, choking me.  I kicked my way to the surface and sputtered out water, coughing like a maniac.

"Don't die on me now, Adriana," Ben called to me.

He was a few feet away of me, swimming towards the lake's shore.  I couldn't help but roll my eyes.  So much for sticking with your family till death.  Okay, maybe that's just marriage, but it should really apply to siblings too.

I was incredibly grateful that I could swim.  We were too far out into the water to touch the bottom of the lake.  The shore wasn't too far away, but it was still a good distance.
