Think About It

"Are you ready to go?" Mona asked, entering your room and sitting on the edge of your bed as you finished buttoning your shirt.

"Yeah, just about," you replied wearily. You were feeling a bit better, despite still being disappointed, so Mona had convinced you to go to the Angel's Share tonight. Hanging out at your favorite tavern and having a few drinks with your friends always did lift your spirits. Plus, there was a very small portion of you that wanted to show your new vision off. You had a fantasy playing in your head that maybe Timaeus would want to see it, and would hold your hand to inspect. Your face felt hot just thinking about him for touching you.

You sighed and walked over to your closet to pick shoes. Since you weren't wearing your usual uniform—instead opting for a nice skirt and short-sleeve, button-up shirt—you decided to wear some flats instead of your usual grimy boots. You hadn't worn the flats in a long time, which left a slight coating of dust. You blew on the shoes to get the dust off, causing it to fly into the air. You accidentally inhaled some particles through your nose and felt your sinuses start to tingle.

"ACHOO!" you sneezed, causing your body to burst into blue flames. Mona shrieked and jumped to her feet.

"You're on fire!" she exclaimed in a panicked voice, "What do I do? What do I do?" You returned her panicked expression and looked down at your body as the edges of your clothes became singed, making your skirt and shirt about an inch shorter than they had been.

"I don't know!" you shrieked back, trying to wipe the flames off your legs, as if that was going to do something.

"Turn off!" you shouted, tapping the glittering red orb on your wrist aggressively.

"Does it hurt? Should I blast you with hydro?" Mona asked, taking her stance and stepping towards you.

"NO!" you replied quickly, thinking about how badly you needed to do laundry (these were your last clean clothes), "No, it just feels... warm." You settled into the feeling and evened your breathing, then the flames started to slowly die down and fade away. You and Mona both breathed a sigh of relief before making eye contact and giggling.

"Welcome to the vision family!" Mona said sheepishly, "At least you don't turn into a puddle when you're nervous. I couldn't stay solid for more than two hours when I first got mine." You looked at her in surprise.

"Really? You had stuff like this happen?" you asked, putting on your shoes. She nodded, finally feeling safe enough to come closer to you.

"Everyone does," she stated, eying you up and down and tugging slightly on your burnt skirt, "I wish mine would have made my clothes cuter like yours." You looked down at your skirt then across the room into your floor-length mirror.

The fire had turned the edges of your sleeves and the bottom of your usually-white shirt a charcoal black and left the hems unfinished. Your hip bones were now visible as well as more of your thighs, which had been revealed by the burnt edges of your skirt. The black thigh-high stockings you were wearing also got singed, leaving the tops jagged. It did look good. You thought you maybe looked... hot. You brightened up a little bit more and turned to your friend.

"Well I'm definitely ready to go now," you giggled, looping your arm into hers. You both exited the room and walked down the hallway of the Favonius girls' dorms.

"Hey, Major Y/N!" a small voice called from down the hallway.

"Hi Noelle!" you greeted cheerily, approaching her, "What are you doing here?" She blushed slightly and looked away.

"Oh, I just wanted to help out with some extra cleaning is all," she replied bashfully, folding her hands behind her back, "I heard you finally received your vision! Congratulations!" Your smile faltered and Mona squeezed your arm, but you remained cordial.
