"Isn't putting us in the same holding cell kind of counterproductive?" you asked as Huffman lead you and Kaeya, still cuffed, into the Mondstadt Drunk Bin (AKA The tiny holding cell where you tossed Springvalers who got too drunk to walk home) in the Knights of Favonius dungeon.
"Maybe, but this is the only holding cell we have," he remarked while unlocking Kaeya's cuffs, then turning to you and doing the same, "I can always put you in a real dungeon cell along with all the real criminals if you're so desperate to get away from him." You considered it, but thought about some of the Fatui and Treasure Hoarder creeps you remember being thrown in there and a shiver went up your spine.
"She'll be fine," Kaeya interjected, rubbing his wrists where the cuffs had dug into him, "We can get along. We did on Dragonspine, remember?" You shot him a quick glare before sitting on one of the cots in the cell.
"Great," Huffman responded, closing the cell door and locking it, "I'll be down in the morning when you can be released." He saluted quickly, then stopped for a second, confused. He shrugged and walked out of the room and up the stairs.
Once you heard the door close behind him, you laid back on the cot, holding your knuckles tenderly. They had turned a bright shade of violet and you knew it was going to bruise badly, but you didn't care. That bastard deserved it. You balled the same hand into a fist again, feeling the pain, which reminded you of his hand around your throat. You glanced over at him.
His cheekbone had one small cut from the force of your punch, which had spilled a bit of blood onto his cheek. It was definitely already swollen and starting to bruise as well. But you didn't care about the injuries. You had socked him. And it felt good.
"Why are you smiling at me like that?" he asked, cutting through the silence and sitting on a cot across the cell from you. You shrugged while you looked away and pursed your lips to hide your tiny smirk.
"I knocked you out in one punch," you stated quietly while examining your knuckles, trying not to laugh. Kaeya grimaced at you.
"I was handcuffed," he replied, "My hands were literally behind my back. That's not ever going to happen again."
"Excuses, excuses," you sighed, tsking and shaking your head. Kaeya chuckled quietly while rolling his eyes. You extended your hand up above you, first looking at your bruises, but then shifting down to the leather strap holding your vision around your wrist. Your cocky smile quickly faded.
You gazed at the flame insignia on it sadly. Then the tears came. You tried to keep your sobbing quiet. Why did nothing in your life ever go to plan? Kaeya's words echoed in your brain.
"You don't hate me, you hate yourself."
You tried to calm your breathing and sat up, wiping away tears and snot, feeling his gaze burning into you. You couldn't stop. You broke down. You realized you hadn't had a chance to yet, really. You had mourned a bit in the Cathedral with Mona, but you had bottled the feelings up, not wanting to bum her out. However, now, the emotions overflowed and spilled out in the form of bitter weeping as you buried your face in your hands.
"Here." You looked up to see Kaeya standing next to you, holding out a light blue handkerchief. You stared at it and considered slapping it out of his hand and punching him again.
"You have snot running down your face, just take it," he demanded. You sighed and snatched it, turning away from him to use it.
"You're such an asshole," you mumbled while wiping your upper lip.
"I know," he replied plainly, causing you to force back a chuckle while glancing at him.
"Why are you crying?" he asked, sitting back down, this time on the floor leaning against the cot instead of sitting on it. You scoffed ruefully.
