"BITCH!" Mona shouted happily and pounced on you, nearly knocking you over. You stumbled a bit, almost knocking over the crafting table at the alchemy shop. Kaeya looked up lazily over his shoulder from the book he was perusing by the bookshelf.
Timaeus had taken the day off for "personal reasons" so Albedo and Sucrose asked you and Kaeya to run the alchemy shop for the day. Although he gave a vague reason as to why he needed the break, you and Kaeya knew exactly why he couldn't—or wouldn't—come into work. It was ironic that you ended up doing him a favor the day after he assaulted you, but you actually didn't mind too much. Running the alchemy shop reminded you of your family back in Khaenri'ah, causing memories of working with your grandfather and mother as a child to flood back to you.
"Hey, careful!" you giggled as you regained your balance. She put her arm around your shoulders and pulled you close.
"Tell. Me. Everything!" she exclaimed giddily, "I have to know about your date!" You felt your face turn red and laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of your neck. The gaze of Kaeya's one eye burned into you like a laser.
"Yeah... Um..." you began, thinking hard about the right way to tell her, "It didn't really go well..."
"Oh no!" Mona said sympathetically, "I'm so sorry, Y/N." She pulled you into a hug.
"It's okay," you replied, "If I'm being honest... I think I'm over him now." Mona pulled away from you, but still held you by your shoulders, looking at you with wide eyes.
"What?" she shrieked, looking absolutely stunned, "But you've liked him for years! What the hell happened on this date?" You felt the heat rush to your cheeks again. It took every effort in your body not to glance at Kaeya. You didn't want Mona to be suspicious.
"Diona said he gave me The Ick," you admitted, shrugging, "It's when—"
"When a guy you like does one thing and it makes you immediately not like him. I know," she interrupted, nodding, "What did he do?" You paused, feeling your eyes start to gloss over as you relived the moment in your head again.
"Aw, did your boring, little white bread boy break your heart?" Kaeya interjected mockingly, breaking you from the scene in your brain. You looked at him in slight surprise and he raised his eyebrows slightly, giving you a knowing look. You quickly realized he had interrupted on purpose because he recognized you slipping into the trauma. Mona, on the other hand, glared daggers at him and put her hands on her hips.
"Just because Timaeus isn't an asshole doesn't mean he's boring, Captain Kaeya," she shot back in annoyance.
"Actually, he was pretty boring..." you admitted sheepishly, "And he was also kind of an asshole..." Mona gasped in disappointment.
"Aw, boo!" she jeered sadly, "I'm so sorry, Y/N!" You shrugged.
"It's fine, really," you replied, "I guess I just realized I didn't want to be with a guy who only talks about alchemy and makes me pay for my own drinks." Mona scrunched her face in disgust.
"Ugh, men!" she spat.
"Tell me about it," you groaned in agreement, causing both of you to giggle.
"Oh! Speaking of alchemy..." Mona mentioned, reaching into her bag and pulling out some weapon ascension materials and mora and tossing them on the crafting bench. You looked at her in amusement as she clumsily organized them in the circle.
"What are you doing?" you asked, trying not to laugh too much. She looked up at you.
"I need to improve my weapon," she explained, sounding confused. You shook your head.
