You nestled deeper into your pillow and yawned, pulling the blanket closer to your face. You were too tired to get up yet...

Wait. You didn't have a blanket on you when you fell asleep. And where did this pillow come from?

You quickly sat up and looked around, rubbing your still-hazy eyes. The spot on the carpet next to you was vacant. Confused, you let your gaze wander around the room until it landed on a note tacked to your door. You curiously stood up and approached to read it, pulling it off the door. It said:

"Dear Y/N,

I tried to get you into bed, but you refused to get off the floor after you fell asleep. You kept muttering something about Tuesday and telling me to eat shit. Who would have guessed that you're just as unbearable when you're unconscious?

I'll see you at headquarters in the morning. I bet you 10,000 mora you'll be at least five minutes late. Prove me wrong, rookie.

-K.A.

P.S. After you passed out, I spent some time gazing around at the ceiling. There's one spot that isn't visible from Mona's place on the rug. Can you find it?"

You quickly looked at the clock and rejoiced in the fact that you still had an hour before you had to leave for work, but then, your curiosity arose. You quietly walked back over to the rug where you had woken up and laid down in Mona's spot.

You let your eyes wander around the ceiling, noting all the places you could see, eliminating them from your observation. You figured out that directly behind her spot was impossible to view without bending over backwards, so you scrambled to your feet and gazed up in the areas. After a moment, you found it.

Written very neatly, but also quite small, were two letters in black ink.

"K.A."

You felt your lips involuntarily curl up into a smile while butterflies swarmed in your stomach.

"I'm here! I'm here!" you exclaimed, busting into Kaeya's office, panting, "What's my time?" Kaeya looked up from the paperwork on his desk and checked the clock. He clicked his tongue in disappointment and rolled his eyes.

"You won by twenty-four fucking seconds," he grumbled angrily.

"Yes!" you hissed in celebration, "Eat shit, Alberich!"

You marched towards his desk with your palm out flat, looking at him expectantly. He glared at you for a moment, then sighed and removed a small mora pouch from one of the drawers of his desk. He plopped it in your hand, so you greedily opened it to look at the shiny gold coins inside, giggling maniacally.

"Don't you love that new Mora smell?" you asked gloatingly, taking a deep, performative whiff from the bag, releasing the breath with a satisfied "Ahhhh..." Kaeya rolled his eyes and chuckled as you pocketed the money.

"You won, fair and square," he admitted, "In fact, I have a bonus reward for you..." You raised an eyebrow in interest as he picked up a paper and turned it to face you, setting it gingerly on the edge of the desk nearest to you. He gestured for you to read it, so you picked it up and skimmed the document.

"Is this an incident report?" you asked. Kaeya nodded.

You scanned the contents, feeling your stomach drop when you saw the "Sexual Assault" box checked under the "Incident Type" section. The incident description lines consisted of a few sentences describing what Kaeya saw, but he clearly only witnessed the end of your experience with Timaeus. He had marked himself down as a witness and signed it at the bottom.

"I filled out most of it for you," he explained, "I didn't see everything, I'm sure, so you would have to fill in the details, but I didn't want you to have to do all the work." You stared at the paper, gripping it tightly. Finally, you raised your eyes to look at him.

"You didn't have to do this," you said sheepishly, "It... wasn't a big deal. I wasn't even going to report it." Kaeya nodded.

"I know you feel that way, but I wanted you to have the option, just in case," he replied. You extended the paper out to him.

"It's fine," you stated, "Really, I'm okay. I don't need to get him in trouble or anything. He would probably just get a slap on the wrist anyway." Kaeya took the paper back.

"Are you sure?" he asked. You nodded.

"I'm sure. I don't think people would really believe me if I said I... y'know..." you paused to take a deep breath, "didn't want it..."

"You wouldn't have to worry about that," Kaeya replied, "I would be there to back up your story. And if I of all people vouch for you, they'll know you're telling the truth." You pursed your lips and shook your head again.

"Yeah, but then you might get in trouble for, I don't know, carving your initials into somebody with a knife?" you shot back, crossing your arms. Kaeya put a hand up to stop you.

"Don't worry about me," he said firmly, "I can handle myself. I've gotten caught doing things much worse. I don't need you to protect me. If you want me to submit this report, I will." The look in his eye was deadly serious. He meant every word he said. You took a deep breath and held his gaze.

"It just... doesn't seem worth it," you sighed, "I'm fine. Really, I am." Kaeya held eye contact for a moment longer, squinting his eyes slightly as if he was thinking. Finally, he released the tension in his body and sat back in his chair.

"Alright," he replied, "I told myself I would only try to convince you three times so you wouldn't feel pressured. But..." He held the paper up and looked directly at you again with that solemn look, no trace of his usual joking or casualness in his manner at all.

"I will never get rid of this," he stated, "If you ever change your mind, I will have it, and I will turn it in for you. Understood?" You felt a pang in your heart at his intensity. He truly cared.

"Understood," you said quietly, "Thank you."
