AN: I know I've said this a million times, but thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for reading my story! I'm so glad you all are enjoying. ❤️
*THUNK*
"Woo hoo! Triple twenty!" you cheered, "I win again!" You pumped your fist in celebration while Diluc sighed and shook out his wrist as he approached the dartboard.
"I've been working the bar too much," he grumbled as he pulled the darts out, "My wrists are sore."
"Excuses, excuses," you sighed faux-wearily then faked a yawn. You saw the corners of his mouth turn upwards as he rolled his eyes and handed you the blue darts while keeping the red for himself. You had always chosen the blue, but now it seemed even more apt.
You and Diluc would occasionally have evenings where he invited you to the winery to have dinner and spend some time with him. It wasn't always darts. Most of the time it was cards or chess; games you actually had a chance at beating Diluc at. Usually darts became a never-ending string of rematches because you were too proud to give up. But today, you were feeling extra confident. The weather outside was beautiful. You were feeling relaxed. You also felt like maybe he would go easy on you, because you were pretty sure this was just an apology hangout for getting you arrested.
"If you're going easy on me, I don't wanna know," you said happily, "winning feels so good!" Diluc chuckled a bit.
"Glad you're feeling better after last night," he commented, aiming his dart, then rocketing it into the bullseye. You shrugged as he stepped aside and you took position.
"It really wasn't that bad actually," you replied frankly, then got your dart on the double twenty spot, "Got some anger out, figured out some vision shit, got to punch Kaeya... It was pretty good." You giggled as Diluc threw his next dart.
"Well, sorry I had to ruin your night by getting you arrested," he said sheepishly, watching you aim, "I can only imagine the argument that ensued between you two in the Drunk Bin..." You faltered for a second, hoping Diluc didn't notice.
"Yeah, it was... pretty brutal," you responded, not hiding it very well. Diluc eyed you.
"Oh? Did you actually try extending the olive branch like we told you?" he asked, suspicion starting to encroach on his voice, You scoffed and threw your dart perfectly into the triple twenty spot on the dart board.
"Please," you spat sarcastically, "that guy is disgusting. I bet he has like, a horde of girls' panties or something gross and creepy like that." Diluc's face was the most expressive you had ever seen it when he looked at you with utter confusion.
"What?" he asked in shock. You felt the blood rush to your face.
"Nothing! I'm just saying," you tried to recover sheepishly, "he's like... a scumbag." Diluc's eyes squinted into slits as he threw his dart next to yours on the triple twenty bar then turned to stare you down.
"Right..." was all he could think to reply. You felt helpless under the scrutiny of his gaze. Why did it always feel like he could see right through you? Your heart beat nervously and loudly in your chest and you felt sweat start to form on your body. You prayed to Barbatos for a distraction.
"Master Diluc?" a quiet voice interrupted. You breathed a sigh of relief and a thank you to the Anemo Archon. But the strange figure you saw in front of you caused your relief to switch back to nervousness. You couldn't even see their face because their cloak covered it, which shrouded their body shape as well.
"What are you doing here?" Diluc asked quickly, sounding concerned. The figure stayed silent. You looked at Diluc who glanced at you, expressionless. You raised your eyebrows.
