Ch 9: We Fight a God

I snapped awake. Shit this is not good, "Serena, we need to get going! Like right now!"

"What? What's going on?"

"Ares, it's him!"

She places a calming hand on my shoulder, "Tamotsu, I'm going to need you to calm down."

I take a second to compose myself, "It's Ares, he's the god who has turned! We need to get to Las Angeles as soon as possible! Ares is sending Annabeth and someone he called a 'sea brat' to the pit to give Kronos the bolt so that he can rise!"

She paled, "We need to warn Annabeth and her team about Ares."

We get out of the car and pull out the prism. I put the prism in front of the headlight to make a rainbow. Serena tossed the drachma into the rainbow and asked to talk to Annabeth. Why isn't it working, "Tamotsu, the IM isn't going through. They're either somewhere we can't reach them or someone's blocking the IM."

"Damnit, this isn't good. We need to get to LA fast."

We get in the car and start heading to LA. It's all starting to come together now. We're in the final stretch of the quest. We're going 90 mph on the highway. Hopefully we don't get pulled over, that's the last thing that we need right now. The ride to LA was really quiet. I hated how there was nothing we could do right now. It was the calm before the storm. It took us five hours to get to LA.

We arrive in LA and I turn to Serena, "Where the hell do we start looking?"

"Well, you said that there was a sea brat? Maybe we head towards the ocean. They might have found out about Ares as well."

We start driving towards the ocean. Fuck, there's so much traffic. We were stopped at a light and I felt the ground start to shake. What the fuck? I turn towards Serena, "Is that an earthquake?"

"Yeah. it is."

We continue driving but one of the light poles falls in the street. Shit, "We need to get out of this car. This earthquake is causing too much damage."

"Yeah, We'd be better to go on foot."

We get out of the car and start running. We really don't have time for this. We were making our way through the city, trying not to get hit by any of the debris that was caused by the earthquake. The city was getting destroyed by the second, "There's no way this is natural. Who the hell is causing this."

"My bet, Tamotsu, it's Poseidon or Hades. Poseidon is the god of earthquakes and Hades is the god of the Underworld."

Thunder starts to blast through the sky, shit, "It seems that Ares' plan seems to be working. The gods are getting angry, and that's never good."

She gave me a hopeful look, "We still have time."

"Hopefully it's enough."

We continued running through LA. People were running around, trying not to die. We were getting closer and closer to the beach, I could start hearing the waves off in the distance. We start climbing the sand dune and see a group of three, one of them being Annabeth. We ran down to them and Serena called out, "Annabeth, what the hell happened?"

"We just escaped Hades. He thought we stole the lightning bolt."

I cut in, "That's great and all, but do you know where the bolt is?"

"Yes, we do, it's in that bag."

I sigh, "I wonder why he thought that."

Annabeth glared at me, "It's not like we stole it! Ares tricked us into bringing it to him!"
