The first thing Rick felt as he woke up was Moon. The younger man slept on his stomach beside Rick, an arm around his waist holding him close, his hand curled to cup Rick's side. This sleeping arrangement was somewhat new, a few weeks in the process. The older man was still getting used to being held this way.
Rick smiled to himself, turning his head to look at his partner. Moon's face was smushed against the pillow. His full lips puckered outward. His hair covered his forehead and eyes. Rick's never met someone who slept so pretty.
Yawning, the Grimes glanced over at his alarm clock that read six, nineteen. He still had a few minutes before he was supposed to be up. There was a small knock on the door frame before Beth walked in. "I've got her." She spoke quietly, making her way toward Judith's crib.
"You sure?" Rick whispered, not wanting to wake Moon. Beth nodded, picking Judith up. The baby was already up and ready to eat. "Thank you." The man couldn't be more grateful for the kindhearted girl. She smiled at him before walking out the small room.
Rick turned on his side, moving so he was closer to Moon. His gaze turned to the walls of the cell. All four sides were painted and sketched on. Random things Moon designed in his free time. Moon has painted large murals all over the prison.
From silly cartoons for the kids, to beautiful art for anyone who wanted to see. People loved it, always praising him for his work. It gave the prison a homey feel. The people who still hadn't gained enough courage to go outside the fences were the most appreciative. It gave them something to look forward to.
Inside their shared cell, Moon painted sheep above Judith's crib. Just to give her side more of a nursery feel. Even Daryl let him paint something in his cell. For Daryl, Moon painted the wall black and added a realistic blue ocean. Simple because Daryl refused to let him add anything else.
It was something fun for Moon to do when he wasn't going on runs or helping Rick and Carl with the garden. Others have asked him to do something for their cell and if he had the time he did.
Turning his eyes back to his boyfriend, the term still seemed foreign on his tongue, Rick took the time to really appreciate the sleeping man beside him. A small smile lifted his face as he finger brushed the hair away from Moon's face.
Sadly, his gazing only lasted a few minutes before the alarm went off. Six, thirty, the time he's gotten up at every day for the past six months. Moon huffed in his sleep, hating the obnoxious noise. He turned his head away from it, stuffing his face into his pillow.
Rick reached over to turn it off, sighing to himself. He didn't want to get up, then he'd have to leave the warm bed with his Moon in it. That's right, his Moon. Rick could claim the title now that they were together. Moon asked him just a few short months ago.
Knowing it wasn't an option to sleep in, Rick rubbed his hand up and down Moon's back, trying to gently wake him up. Moon didn't enjoy being woken up in the morning, he liked to wake up on his own time. "Wake up, baby." Rick kissed the back of his neck, encouraging him to get up.
Moon grunted, wiggling a bit to try and get Rick to stop so he could sleep peacefully. When that didn't work, he scooted away from Rick, closer to the wall. Which wasn't far. The twin sized bed they slept on wasn't big enough for them to move around too much.
It made Rick smile. "You've got a run today. You have to get up." He reminded, pulling Moon back to him by the waist. "Wanna stay here." Moon mumbled, turning into Rick's warm chest.
"I know, I do too. But things don't get done when we sleep." Rick sat up, taking Moon with him. The short man groaned in a sleepy annoyance. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes with the back of his hand, pouting so Rick could see his displeasure.
