Chapter 16

Alden was still set on getting Amauri and Tyon close. He had 5 months left and despite having no awkward atmosphere between the two, they seemed more like enemies than friends. Therefore, Alden quickly suggested another outing to the two. Amauri jumped on the occasion to be with his mommy and Tyon was way too happy to be part of the plan. He took hours to get ready and couldn't calm down his heart while following his family to the Zoo.

Amauri loved the Zoo and just like the first time, Alden and him stared at the animals for hours. Tyon didn't care at all about the animals but seeing how adorable Alden was he was happy he came. While the others were having fun, he was staring at his little family, his heart aching. Tyon never had a happy family and felt so happy that he could have cried. Alden soon felt Tyon's gaze and started touching his face:

"Is there something on my face?"

Tyon smiled:

"Gorgeous."

Alden froze and felt his cheeks heat up for some reason.

"What?"

Tyon soon realized what he said and quickly looked away:

"Nothing."

While they were walking around Amauri was telling his mommy everything he knew about the animals, asking if he was smart. Alden was smiling happily:

"You are the smartest child on this earth."

Amauri flashed a victory smile towards Tyon who just frowned, not ready to admit defeat. During their little competition, Alden started staring at a penguin balloon and Tyon immediately noticed. He went to buy it and handed it to Alden. The latter turned to Amauri thinking Tyon had been too shy to give it directly. Amauri seemed very happy to get a gift but Tyon shook his head:

"That was for you.

-For me?

-Yes. You were staring at it."

Hearing that, Amauri immediately gave back the balloon stating that he wasn't interested in balloons. Alden couldn't convince him to accept the balloon and had to keep it. He didn't want to admit it but he liked this gift. He couldn't hold back a smile and Tyon started laughing because Alden just looked so adorable that it was irresistible. Alden immediately frowned, never having seen Tyon laugh ever. It was... Weird.

Amauri suddenly turned to his mommy:

"Mama, are you hungry?"

Alden frowned again. Wasn't he supposed to be the one asking these things? When did he become the child of the group?

"Are you hungry, Amauri?

-A bit.

-What would you like to eat?

-What would mommy like?

-Hum... I don't know. I saw a hamburger stand not far.

-I love hamburgers!"

It was settled and they went there to have lunch. Seeing their meal, Tyon frowned:

"This is not very healthy. You shouldn't be eating this."

Amauri immediately straightened up:

"Mommy likes hamburgers.

-Does he? Or does he eat it because he knows you like it?"

Amauri's eyes seemed to tremble and he quickly turned to his mommy on the verge of crying. Alden quickly swallowed his mouthful and said:

"I love hamburgers."

Another victory smile from Amauri and Tyon ate his hamburger without saying anything. As they were eating in silence, Alden lifted his head and saw someone he didn't want to. This made him choke on his food and two worried figures jumped up to give him water and rub his back. Alden started crying because of the food in the wrong pipe and this made everyone panic. Amauri started crying:

"Mommy is hurt!"

And Tyon seemed on the verge of killing someone. Alden couldn't calm down with both of them being this agitated and did his best to breath while grabbing them to force them to sit back down. Because of the commotion everyone was looking at them and the people Alden saw came up to them. Alden just calmed down when he heard her voice:

"Alden? What a nice surprise. What are you doing here?"

Alden felt his whole body tremble but he didn't show any of it. He was amazing at hiding his emotions and no one ever realized when he was having a hard time before. He just smiled and waved:

"Hi there. It is a beautiful day so I couldn't just stay locked up."

A man next to the woman laughed:

"You sure do love to stay locked up."

Alden shuddered.

"Not really.

-Why don't we see you lately? You should come by."

Alden didn't have time to answer because Amauri stood up:

"My mommy is going nowhere without me. Right mommy?"

Everyone was very shocked hearing this child call Alden mommy but they didn't have time to realize because Tyon was the next one to get up:

"It is not polite to creep up on a group without introducing yourselves."

His eyes were so cold that the newcomers froze. They soon came up with an excuse and left the small family alone again. Alden was really relieved and was ready to act as nothing but a glass of water got handed to him by Tyon.

"Are you okay? asked Tyon."

Alden frowned.

"Of course.

-You didn't seem fine. Do you want to go home?

-Mommy do you feel sick? You look pale."

Alden was completely flabbergasted. No one ever saw through his act or no one ever cared enough to see through it and for the first time someone actually cared for him. It felt so weird that Alden started choking on tears. He felt really ashamed and tried to hide but the two didn't yield:

"Mommy what's wrong? We should call a doctor.

-Are you feeling hot? Can you breathe?"

Alden couldn't respond holding back tears and the two started panicking crying for a doctor to come. Alden started feeling very ashamed and did his best calming them:

"I'm fine. I don't need a doctor.

-Are you sure?"

Tyon forced Alden to look up to see if he had a fever. Seeing his eyes he froze.

"Are you crying?"

Alden panicked:

"No! No. I am not!"

He wanted to run away but the next second he was in Tyon arms being pressed against his chest. Alden wasn't used to being comforted and continued panicking trying his best to push Tyon away but he wasn't budging. Instead he started rubbing Alden's back just like he did for Amauri when he was crying.

"It's okay. You are safe."

Hearing these words broke Alden who really did start crying. Seeing his mommy sad, Amauri cried too and hugged him from behind whispering the same soothing words:

"Tears are human. Everything will be fine, mommy. You are safe. We love you."
