Today was the day they were attempting to regain Peeta's memories back. I was not optimistic. I didn't tell anyone that, obviously, because they needed hope at least. The Capitol really messed with him brain and I don't think much would bring him back to what he was before. I stood beside Katniss outside the room and grasped her cold hand. A sober Haymitch stood the other side of her, his expression serious and fixated on the room. Inside Peeta lay in a bed. The whole room was white. White tiles, white sheets, white bed and white lights.
"Take him out of that room," I snapped.
"Why?" Katniss asked.
"It's white," I breathed, "it's all white like the cells."
"What do you mean?" Haymitch asked.
"I mean you're triggering the memories of those cells," I said, "all the rooms were like that."
"We'll be sure to move him if our latest theory doesn't work," Plutarch said horribly cheerfully.
I rolled my eyes as I heard a deep voice say, "bring her in."
I watched as a young blonde girl made her way into the room. Primrose Everdeen. What the fuck were they playing at? I squeezed Katniss's hand gently. I was there for her.
"Peeta," the girl smiled.
"Prim," Peeta croaked.
"How are you doing?" She asked.
"Shes too close," Haymitch said suddenly.
Plutarch shook his head, "it's okay."
"No it's not," I snapped, "didn't you see what he did, what they programmed him to do?"
"I'll take what precautions I see fit," Plutarch replied.
"No you'll listen to Alma Coin and take her precautions," I spat.
I felt Katniss squeeze my hand. So I dropped my gaze from Plutarch back to Prim and Peeta.
"Where are we?" Peeta murmured.
"We're in District 13 now," Prim explained, "it's a real place, the stories are true. You were rescued."
"My family hasn't come to see me," Peeta said.
My heart broke.
"There was an attack on twelve," he said in realisation.
"Yes," Prim replied.
"My family..." Peeta said.
Prim looked at him with a look of pain. I could see her eyes beginning to glisten and her voice shook as she said, "the bakery didn't survive."
My heart broke again.
Peter took a deep shaky breath and I looked to Katniss who was looking at his helpless frame trying not to break down herself.
"It's because of Katniss," Peeta said suddenly.
"It's not because of her," Prim said softly.
"Did she tell you to say that?" Peeta snapped.
"She didn't tell me anything," she replied.
"Shes a liar Prim," he said darkly, "it's a trick."
"Peeta," she breathed, "what you're saying isn't real."
Peeta suddenly looked up and said, "she sent you here to talk to me. She knows you're here now."
"It's okay," Prim whispered.
"YOU CAN'T TRUST HER!" he screamed, thrashing around, "SHE'S A MONSTER AND A MUTT THAT THE CAPITOL CREATED TO DESTROY US!"
"Get Prim out," I said.
