State of mind drives the softest of doves to undertake the task made for crows. Her heroin's wings will fail, and with or without wings, pass or fail, there is no telling which side will prevail. Issac had memorized the prophecy less than three hours after reading it the first time, he'd written it in his notebook and circled phrases. He was trying to find the possible meaning of the words and attempting to connect them to the people he knew and the gods burdening them. He looked for mentions of weapons and animals other than birds. The dove was his strongest clue, the dove was Aphrodite's sacred animal and that led him directly to worrying about the entirety of the Aphrodite cabin.
He tried to make Zoe's loss of concern comforting, but she was clearly distracted. He also worried about her, the heroin. She pissed off the gods very often and she was reckless. She was also the closest thing he had to family at camp and if something happened to her and he could have done something or warned her properly and he didn't, he'd never forgive himself. His dad had even taken her in. His dad was a soldier. He couldn't let his dad lose the closest thing he had to a daughter. Issac couldn't handle his dad if she died. He couldn't handle himself, not if he knew something and was just too dull to translate it into a warning.
"Issac," he looked up from his desk to see Marline, "You missed dinner."
He smiled, Marline was new, "I'm busy." Marline had shown up during Zoe's court case, he hadn't spoken to her much but when he did she was pleasent. She was about twelve, dark skin with moonstone grey eyes. She had stuck near him, maybe it was because he was the only one who looked like her. Whatever it was, he was happy to show her the ways of Camp Half Blood.
She tossed her braids over her shoulder, "You need to eat, you're tall." She set a plate of brisket next to him, "What are you working on?"
"Isn't there a demonstration tonight?" he shoved his notebook to the side, suddenly realizing how hungry he was.
"It's just the Ares kids punching things, now what are you working on?"
"Just studying,"
"Your own handwriting? Because I was really hoping you'd finally gotten into architecture."
"Maybe I am, don't worry about it."
"Boo," she walked over to her desk grabbed a book and fell into her own bed, "You've been staring at that for hours and you are incredibly boring."
---
"How do you keep winning?" Andy dropped all of his cards in defeat.
"She's cheating," Sam shrugged like that was the obvious reason.
"Or you all just suck," Zoe suggested,
"I'll admit to being bad at this," Paris said, collecting everyone's cards to shuffle. Zoe and her friends were sitting on spare beds in the infirmary playing cards, waiting for Anna to finish a surgery. Apparently one of the new campers tried the lava wall on their own for the first time and managed to almost get their legs cut off. Anna had been working to reattach them for hours.
"Paris is a bigger man than all of you,"
"I haven't complained yet," Issac said from a chair in the corner. He was still pouring over his prophecy in the notebook, and she was still the only other person who knew.
"To clarify," Nathan said, "I think Zoe would lose if I wasn't the only real competitor."
"Well," Zoe shrugged, "You are and I'm still better."
She felt a weight on her shoulder, "Why are you so mean?" Andy mumbled.
"I'm not even being mean to you Cupid," why is he like this.
