That Looks Like It Hurts

Maddie didn't run far, really she just hid around the corner, she heard the screams.  Dani's voice echoed through the tunnels bouncing off of the walls.  Maddie knew she shouldn't feel bad for Dani, but her voice was shaking with pain as she yelled.  "Maddie," Zoe called out to her as she rounded the corner, "What are you doing here?"

She had blood on her hands, "What are you doing here?"  Zoe honestly looked post apocalyptic, her hair was falling out of a braid, the remaining pieces tucked behind her ears.  She was wearing her usual camp shirt, though it had several stains that looked like monster blood on it.  More noticeably, her eyes were blood shot with heavy dark circles.  This was not one of the outcomes she'd expected for this mission.

"Looking for you, you disappeared."  She wiped her hands on her shorts, "You're family is freaking out."

"Oh," it's not like she didn't think her brother would notice, she just didn't know he'd send someone to look for her.  "How is Andy?"

Zoe shook her head, "He's a fucking mess, he's worried your dead and he doesn't want me here right now.  He spent like two days trying to convince me to let him come here alone instead of me."

"Oh," she felt the guilt forming in her gut.  She didn't think it through really, she got fed up bullshitted a plan and headed out.  She didn't question how it would impact anyone else around her. "Did you guys think I needed saving?"

        "Why are you here, Maddie?"

"There's a weapon, one that will officially bring Kronos back.  One that combined with Amy will give him all of the power he needs to take things over."  There was more about it but she didn't know where to start, Zander had a notebook.  She'd stolen a page from his and tapped it inside of her's, or the one she stole from Issac at the beach, it was just sitting there calling to her.  Maybe Matt was a bad influence.

She stared at her, open mouthed, eyes wide.  "You could've told me before you left without a word, you could've told any of us."

        "Would you have listened?"

"Yes, did you not think I would?"

"No, why would you?  This is ridiculous sounding."  Especially if she explained that it was a century old scythe, half silver, half celestial bronze, faital to mortals and demigods alike.  It would sound even stupider if she explained that it was kept in there  to keep what was left of Kronos' spirit within the metal.  That was absolutely ridiculous.

"Maddie."  She shook her head, "Greek gods are real, my bracelet is a sword, and we are underground in an evil layer right now.  I'd believe you."

You kissed my brother, we'll unpack that later, "Will you help me?"

"Of course," she smiled, "Lead the way."

"So uh, what did you do to her?"

Zoe fell into step next to her, "Let's just say she won't be following us anytime soon, what'd you do with Lucille?"

"She's flying back to Camp on a long scenic route."  She still couldn't comprehend what was happening, she'd gone off on her little mission without telling anyone.  Maybe that was a bad idea, "Are you mad at me?"

"Well, not telling anyone was pretty fucking stupid."  She sighed, "I'm not mad, but you're in danger."

"I didn't think this would be safe, that's why I didn't tell Cassidy.  She'd try and go with me and if we got caught she'd be really screwed."
