Danielle's Point of View
We had just arrived back at the house and all of our luggage had just arrived. It felt good to be home again. I mean don't get me wrong the tour was amazing too but I really just wanted my own bed back.
Okay maybe not my bed exactly, I prefer Calum's, because it's way more comfortable.
I sighed deeply putting one of my suitcases in the corner. I put down my travel bag and took out my phone. Putting it in the dock I put on a slow and quiet song on to try help me sleep.
I got under the covers closed my eyes and drift off into sleep.
•
I wake up rubbing my eyes and yawning. Lifting my head from the pillow and throwing my feet over the bed I took my phone from the dock putting on a zipper, not caring if it was mine or not and going downstairs.
Not finding anyone in the living room or kitchen I called out.
"Hello? Anybody there ?" Just then Michael walked in from the garden going into the fridge.
"Oh hey sleeping beauty, everyone's outside" he took out a bottle of beer "Do you want one?"
I shook my head. "No thanks" I smiled following him through outside. It was still quite bright out considering it was like 6pm.
We had brought April and Miriam back to Australia, I'm not sure how long they're staying but it's good to have some more girl friends around.
I took a seat in between Calum and April and hugged my knees to my chest.
"How are you feeling?" Calum asked me pushing my hair back.
"Alright I guess..." I responded giving him a small smile. He smiled back taking a drink of whatever he had in his water bottle.
Most of the rest of the evening was spent talking and eating dinner outside in the garden. At about nine o'clock we had a bonfire with marshmallows and hot chocolate round the fire.
My phone started to ring and I looked at the caller ID to see it was the police.
"I'll be back in a sec" I murmured getting up and putting the phone to my ear. "Hello?"
"Hi there, it's Mrs Dillon from the police here we have some news for you. Your parents sentence has been dropped as there wasn't enough evidence for there to be a long enough sentence. It's been put down to five years" she explained.
I didn't speak as I was lost for words. I don't understand, all these years of pain and that's all they get. "What...?" I finally breathed out.
"I'm sorry Miss Jones, I know this isn't very good news. If you have any further questions we can arrange for you to come down to the station"
"N..no it's... it's fine. Thanks"
"Okay, bye"
"Bye"
I stood there looking at my phone, shocked at what I had heard. I hugged myself trying to take it all in. I then felt arms around my mine and a head on my shoulder. "You , okay?" Calum asked me head bobbing up and down.
I nodded. "The prison sentence has been dropped... five years" I sighed.
"I'm sorry..."
"It's fine... I'm fine, it's just life I guess" I turned around and looked at him. "When your parents died... how did you cope with... the fact that you'll never see them again?"
