Author's Note » sorry if this "exposition" is super long and drawn out. i'm trying to establish you and dash's genuine care and affection for each other, as well the development from strangers to crushes, before the (optional 😊) smut and further story progression

IN THE PARKING LOT

"I got 1010!" Dash exclaimed as she hugged you from behind. This time, she was in the car with you and was still successful in her surprise attack.

You smiled as she swung you around. Her phone was unlocked and brightly showed the score in bold. You had checked yours last night and texted Dash that they were out, but she was already asleep and thus didn't respond. Alas, her attention span was short, so she likely didn't check it after waking up either, which explains her just now sudden exclamation.

You gently pat her arms. "I told you: you are smart."

"What'd you get? 2000?"

"That's not possible," you chuckled. "I got 1070. You're only a range below me, that's really good."

i like being in her arms —"What's your specific sections?" you used your pointer finger to scroll on her phone.

"540 and 470," she read, quoting reading and math respectively. "You?"

"560 and 510." You had a pretty decent memory. "I mean... it's okay, since I've never seen half the math on that test before, but I was surprised I did better in English."

"I know right?!" Dash still had yet to let you go. "Mine was a huge difference!"

She paused to subtract. "70 points! ...or whatever they're called. But yours is good, only... 50."

"Don't compare yourself to me." You looked up, gently booping her nose. "You did good for you and I did good for me."

"I'm not," she whined. "Just because you're smarter than me - which is an obvious observation! - doesn't mean I can't congratulate you either."

"...Fine." You wiggled out of her arms as the bell only had a few minutes before ringing, not to mention your first class was upstairs.

"C'mon!" Dash smiled, grabbing your hand and running. "We can make it if we run!"

"Dash!" You were completely okay with getting a tardy pass from the main office.

Unfortunately, your classes were not in the same wing, though both were upstairs. Making it to your first period - which was relatively easy as it was right around the corner after the stairs in E wing - Dash laughed and waved as she left you at the door.

You caught your breath as you walked into the room; the teacher was just seconds away from closing it. You wondered if Dash was as lucky. Considering the bell rang seconds after you sat in your seat, it was going to be close. Her experience in track would genuinely make a difference.

Sunset Shimmer laughed as you plopped down into the seat. Since her experiment, she occasionally sits with you but is well aware of her limits. "What held you two up?"

"Well, I'm assuming you and Rainbow were together since Applejack texted the group chat asking who took Rainbow to school but we realized she wasn't here yet either. I told them you weren't here so it might've been you."

You huffed. "She was telling me about her PSAT score in the parking lot."

Her expression brightened. "Oh, they're out?! What'd you get?" Sunset opened a new tab on her Chromebook.

"1070." You looked over at your phone on the table when it buzzed, just as Principal Vice Luna's announcements were coming on.
