It was, what we referred to as, the month of birthdays. Not only was it the month that my birthday fell in, but also Ness's and quite a few of my cousins and Bobby's family as well. Because of this, there were birthdays and get-togethers like crazy.
Normally, we'd follow the tradition of going to New Jersey for my birthday. It had started as a week, but most of the time we now went for almost the entire month of March. That way we could see all of our family and wish a lot of them a happy birthday right around their birthday.
Yet, for not the first time, we couldn't travel to New Jersey because I was pregnant.
In one way, it was easier not going to New Jersey. We didn't need to pack up a bunch of stuff, get the plane ready, and deal with the boys in the air. We didn't need to get them ready for seeing people as often, either.
On the other hand, we had to stay home and deal with the month of birthdays on the other side of the country. This meant getting presents that are easily mailed, hoping not to forget anyone, and telling people we were just hoping we could get together after baby number three is born.
"Boooooobbbbyyyyyy," I groaned as he woke me up. He'd been up with Ness for a few hours, and Lucas for a while, too.
While I would normally be all too eager to get up with them, last night I couldn't sleep at all. I was sick all night. It had gotten to the point that I didn't even leave the bathroom, just slept on the linoleum until the next wave of my sickness came along. By around 5 a.m., I hadn't woken up in about three hours, so Bobby begged me to come back to bed. I came back and hadn't been sick since. But now it was probably 10:00, and Bobby was waking me up, knowing that no matter how much sleep he always begged me to get, he needed me and knew I'd be mad if he let me sleep all day.
"Honey, you have to get up. It's, like, 10:30."
"I know," I said, yawning.
"And we need to figure out if you have a sickness or not. And we have to figure out if you are going to go in today or not."
At that sentence, my eyes opened wide. "No, Bobby. I'm not going in."
"You were puking all night," he said.
"Trust me, I know," I said, "but I am not going in. I refuse to go in."
"Wouldn't you rather know what was wrong and how to take care of it than deal with it for a week or so?"
"It's normal to puke when you're pregnant. Maybe my nausea is coming back, but it's coming at night instead of in the morning," I said.
"Whatever," he said with a deep breath out, "you just need to get out of bed. Ness and Lucas are dying without you."
"I'm so sure," I said sarcastically as I got up. "We both know that you're the favorite parent."
He rolled his eyes. "Now give me a kiss for Pete's sake."
I didn't want to; I knew I had morning breath and he didn't. "Just let me-"
He put one hand on my cheek and pulled my face to his before I could protest. I pulled away as fast as humanly possible when I heard little footsteps coming near our room.
"Daddy?" Lucas asked before walking in. Luckily, we saved ourselves from "ewww"s for the rest of the day just in time. "Is Mama up?"
I looked at him and smiled. "Yes I am," I answered and he ran over to me and immediately hugged my legs.
"Aw, hugs this morning?"
"I thought you died," he said dramatically and I laughed until I realized he was serious. My three year old son was serious about thinking that I died.
"Oh, no," I said, picking him up. "I didn't die. I'm right here."
Bobby had already left to go watch Ness, and I figured I should go out and join them. I carried Lucas out to the living room.
"So, how'd the morning go while I was sleeping?" I asked.
"Mama!" Lucas exclaimed, "Ness was watching SpongeBob when Daddy said it was time for breakfast but I went right to the table and ate like I was s'posed to!"
Always wanting to prove he was the better child, Lucas was. I wondered if he'd be so competitive with baby number three.

That was the day the construction workers told us they were done, and we went and saw Ness's new room for the first time that it was fully finished. They'd been working on it since January, and it looked really good.
It was already painted a light blue, enough that if a girl were to end up in that room it was girly, but if everything went as planned Ness wouldn't be made fun of in elementary school because of girly walls. We just had to decorate it, which, not surprisingly, was not my strong suit.
Sarah would help me, though, Lauren too. Those two together could decorate any room to perfection. Heck, they decorated most of our house.
Bobby and I laid on the floor in there that night, like complete weirdos.
"Think he'll be open to moving down here?" Bobby asked.
"No way. He'll hate it for the first week or two, but eventually he'll learn that he loves it. And he'll probably try to sneak out of that window," I pointed at a window, "when he's a teen. But we'll stop him. And he'll want to pack up the entire thing up when he leaves this place, but I don't want to think that far ahead right now," I answered.
"You don't have to," he said and squeezed my hand. He kissed me on the top of my head and got up. "Bedtime."
"Bedtime," I said in a fake whiny voice.
He nodded. "Do you want me to carry you?"
I practically shot up off the floor. "Nope," I said, "I'm good."
He laughed at me as we went upstairs, and I wasn't surprised to find that I wouldn't get much sleep tonight either. The nausea of pregnancy was officially back, and at a horrible hour every night.
