I woke up to the sound of sirens.

Sirens, I thought. Why are there sirens?

Then, I thought, OH MY GOSH! SIRENS!

"Keep your head under the blanket and keep your fucking mouth shut," Sean said.

As if I could open my mouth anyway. The tape was still over it.

I heard a man's voice, a new and unfamiliar one.

"Sir, are you aware that this vehicle has been reported stolen?"

"What?" It was Sean's voice. "No, I had no idea. My grandma lent me her car for the weekend. I'm on a little road trip to my cabin in Utah. She's pretty old. She might've forgotten she let me borrow it for the weekend."

"OK, sir. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I'll just check your car and make sure everything looks good. Sometimes when people lend their vehicles to others there can be something wrong with it that causes people to be pulled over. Your taillights are good. I'll just take a peek in your car."

That was when I got scared. Do I make a noise? Do I try to move? Will he even notice me?

"Can you tell me what's under that blanket?" the voice said.

"Oh, I think my puppy is under there. She's probably sleeping and I wouldn't want to wake her," Sean said.

Did he have an excuse for everything?

"Oh, yes, I love dogs," the voice said. "But I'm really supposed to be able to see the things you have. No offense; it's nothing against you, but the law is all worried about drug dealers and stuff, you know."

"Yeah." Sean cleared his throat. "No problem."

I felt something on the blanket, and then my feet were uncovered. Slowly, the blanket uncovered more and more of me, and I heard chaos. I didn't want to know what was happening. I didn't want to think that I was causing any deaths, but I heard gunshots, I heard complete chaos.

Then the blanket was over my head, the tape was peeled off, and I opened my eyes to a relieving familiar face.

"Bobby?" I whispered, but there was no time to talk. I was picked up and carried to an ambulance, and the ambulance rushed away to a hospital. I don't know why I was taken to a hospital; I wasn't injured. But I think it was for safety reasons, to make sure I was OK.

I drank some water. Then everything went black.

I woke up to bright. Bright, white, everywhere. Bright, white hospital sheets, bright, white, walls, a bright, white hospital gown that I was wearing, and a dark blob next to me.

"Christina?" I heard his warm, hopeful voice. "She's up!"

Everything cleared out, and I saw Bobby's face.

"Hey, honey," he said. "How're you doing?"

I tried to talk, but my throat hurt and was very dry. All that came out was something that sounded like me clearing my throat mixed with a "hmph" noise.

Then a petite woman in scrubs came in and gave me some water. I drank the entire cup, and then tried talking.

"Is the baby OK?" I somehow got out.

"Yes, honey, the baby's fine. Since you were in a lot of stress, the baby was feeling stressed too, but now it's better."

"More... water?" I asked when I couldn't get much noise out.

The nurse said, "Yes, I'll go get you a pitcher, but I would recommend not drinking the entire thing in one sitting. It causes more trouble since you have to go to the bathroom like crazy."
