Mercy

I grabbed my bow, then gave my Mom a kiss on the cheek.

"See you in the morning. I love you."
"I love you too. Be careful." She smiled as I walked out the door.

It will be just me and no Billy tonight. He is at home healing from this morning's test if that's what you want to call it. It was more of an evaluation and I came to realize something since I've had time to cool off.

Yes, he was easy on me, but I will have plenty of opportunities to spar with him in the future. If he wants to go easy on me each and ever time he can, BUT I guarantee he will keep getting his nose rebroken over and over again. I am aware of the damage he could do on me, but it will make me stronger.

That's what people don't understand. I will take the pain if it gives me experience. I have fought Rouge's before and those asshole aren't just here to play. They're here for blood so they fight dirty. I have plenty of experience with pain, but if he is somehow stronger than them, then bring it on. I'm always down for a fight as much as the next person.

I reached the border, then found a tree to climb up. Pulling up my hoodie and mask, I hunkered down onto a branch high up. There was no one around so I would have to be extra attentive. At least there wasn't until someone walked into the clearing and leaned up against the tree across from the one I was sitting in.

He seemed bored and hadn't noticed me yet. I was fine with it either way. Sebastian was the last person I wanted to talk to. What the fuck is he doing here anyways? Isn't this job a little.. beneath him? I just rolled my eyes and moved more into the tree quietly so that he wouldn't see me if he was to look around.

We sat silently for a couple of hours watching bored. I missed having Billy here with me. At least when he is here we talked about shit. Bash as I now like to call him eventually sighed and sat against the tree beneath me. I watched as he scrolled through his phone bored. Again, why is he here? He isn't even paying attention.

I got up from my spot silent and moved across the branches to jump to another tree. The leaves shook a bit, but thank fully the wind blew at the right moment not letting on to me being here.

I sat down in the tree and looked over to him. He was still scrolling on that damn phone instead of paying attention. Ehh fuck it. The night is quiet. Why not have some fun?

I pulled my arrow back releasing it about fifty feet away and across the border. When it landed his head popped up and he stood to his feet. I smiled holding back a laugh as he looked around for any movement or noise. As soon as he looked down at his phone again, I shot out another arrow.

He growled looking up to me making the smile wipe from my face. How did he know I was here? No one ever finds me as fast as he did.

"Knock it off." He demanded.
"If you're not going to pay attention, then leave."
"You don't get order me around." He stated getting annoyed.
"Cry about it to someone who cares cause I'm not the one."

He growled and looked back towards the outside of the border. Am I being childish? Sure. Do I also take this job seriously? Yes and so should he. They don't always make noises and a lot of the times they have got the jump on us due to scent blockers.

A growl sounded from the other side of the border causing us both to look up to it. My arrows were throw over landing on the ground at Sebastian's feet. He tossed his phone to the ground and looked back up to the woods. He was looking around intensely, but I had already found them.

"Two, 6 o'clock. Scent blockers."

He looked up to me, but I ignored him and pulled back my arrow. As soon at the first one appeared he dropped to the ground with an arrow in the four head. The other caught on and ran in a zig zag. I don't miss after all. I nailed him right through the eye ball and the arrow head stuck out the back of his head.

I settled back down as Sebastian looked up to me in shock.

"Don't look so surprised. You were told twice I don't miss."

He didn't say anything as I dropped from the tree and collected my arrows. I wiped the blood and brain matter off on the fur of the dead Rouge's, then walked back under the tree. I didn't feel like climbing up just yet so I crossed my arms and leaned up against it.

"You only work the night shift?" He asked suddenly.
"Yep."
"What nights?" He wondered.
"Every night. 15 take day shift and 15 take night shift. It's not a lot of people, but it's all we have."
"You've never had a breach?" He asked surprised.
"We make it work and no. They're dead before they even hit the border. A couple have made it across a few times, but they were killed by me before they could get too far into the territory."

He nodded his head. Why is that so surprising? I get it, I would be surprised to if I was him, but I'm not. I have faith in my people and he should too. We've make it this far and that should say something. I pulled my mask down and looked to him.

"You're a dick."
"What did I do now?" He asked bored.
"Just reminding you also I want a rematch. That was shit and you know it."
"Cry about it to someone that cares because I am not the one." He retorted using my own words against me.

I growled lowly while walking up to him.

"Tsk tsk. Don't fight with anger, Mer. Its ruins your focus." He smirked again using my own words against me yet again.

I stalked closer and closer slowly until we were a foot apart. I stared into his eyes challenging him. I didn't back down the first time and I won't back down this time. His eyes practically lit up as another growl was heard. Without breaking eye contact, I pulled an arrow back and waited.

I waited and waited until I knew exactly where the Rouge was from the corner of my eye and released it. He was the one to break eye contact amazed at the fact I killed it without looking.

"Interesting." He muttered.
"Better watch out."
"Of what? You?" He asked looked back to me and taking a step closer.
"Good little, Bitch."

He growled and pulled me against him by my throat and I just smirked removing my hood.

"Don't push me, Mercy." He warned.
"Or what, Gamma Black?"

I made innocent eyes at him and he tightened his hold on me. I bit my lip and his eyes flew down to them, then where he least expected it, I kneed him in the side. He let go and growled while reaching for his side. Boldly, I grabbed his jaw softy and made him look to me.

"Don't push me, Bash."

I let go and walked back to my tree to climb up it, where I spent the rest of the night unbothered by the Gamma that didn't stray to far. I wasn't stupid. I know why he's here. One, him and James don't think I'm capable of doing this alone without a male. Two, he's a creepy stalker. I wouldn't be surprised by either.

When the morning came I burned the bodies alone, then left for home. I was tired, but others than calling it a long boring night, it wasn't too bad.
