Enid's pov:

As me and my dad continue talking about my time at Nevermore my mom suddenly bursts into my room and sighs as she rolls her eyes.
-"oh there you two are"
She says. She then looks at my room where she sees I haven't finished unpacking.
-"ugh and Enid you haven't even finished unpacking. Murray have you been distracting her??"
-"sorry dear"
My dad says, picking up our emptied hot chocolates.
-"don't tell me that was hot chocolate"
My mom says clearly upset as she looks at my dad. My dad puts his head down but doesn't respond.

-"what have I TOLD you about the dairy!?"
-"why do we have it then Esther?"
My dad replies, growing annoyed. My mom doesn't reply and my dad sighs.
-"look it's the girls first day back so I thought I'd surprise her with a little treat"
He says.
-"yes and that's why we're going to dinner. Now go get your wallet the boys are ready to leave"
My mom says, practically pushing my dad out of the room. My mom turns to me and smiles.
-"so enie how was school? You excited for dinner tonight? There's an extra big steak with your name on it"
My mom says happily as she sits on the edge of my bed.

-"yeahh totally, dinner will be great"
-"mhm! And guess who I've invited to tag along??"
My mom asks excitedly.
-"ooo whooo"
I say, mostly sarcastically.
-"Tony!"
My mom exclaims happily and I feel as all the color in my face drains.
-"t-tony?"
I ask looking at her, my eyes widened. My mom smiles and nods.

-"you remember him don't you?"
She asks. Oh yeah I DEFINITELY remember Tony Weathers. He practically assaulted me but it was passed off as a joke. True it's been like 3 years but I still don't wanna see him.

My mom starts hanging up some of my shirts.
-"I remember he had the sweetest little crush on you! Oh and he's grown up to be such a handsome young man!"
My mom says with a smirk as she looks at me. Yeah young "man" is right, if I remember correctly he should be 17 right now. Probably about to turn 18 while I'm barely about to be 16. I clear my throat and laugh a little to keep the mood light.
-"oh yeah I remember that, a-are you sure he'd wanna come to dinner with us tonight?"
I nervously ask.
-"oh of courseee! He's missed you y'know?"
My mom says with a wink.
-"now put on something nice, I'm not tryna set you up or anything but let's just say I wouldn't be upset if something happened between you two"
My mom says with a smile.

I fall on my bed. Me and Tony USED to be good friends. And at one point I probably could've liked him. We first met when we were like 10. Well I was 10, he was 12. His crush on me was very obvious and he was very forward about his feelings. I told him I didn't feel the same and for a while he was cool with it and we remained friends. But when he became a freshman in high school he invited me over to a party. Me being the stupid gullible 7th grader I was I decided to go cuz I thought it was the coolest thing ever. That's when the assault began. He'd forcefully kiss me and touch me and try to get me to drink. Whenever I'd complain or try to stop him he'd get upset because I was "just a stupid little kid who should be grateful" that he even liked me. This only continued for a couple months until one of my brothers recommended I transfer to Nevermore with him.

My last day in San Francisco I cussed Tony out and slapped him. I never expected to see him again.
-"Enid it's time to go!"
I hear my mother yell out from downstairs.
-"c-coming!"
I yell back in a shaky voice. This is fine, I'll just stick with my dad the whole time. Everything will be fine.
-"I can't wait to see Tony!"
My youngest brother exclaims as we get in the car.
-"yeah! Dudes the coolest, he's gonna make a great brother in law don't screw up Enid"
Another one of my brothers says with a laugh.

One of my older brothers frowns and leans next to me.
-"you ok Enid?"
He asks. I don't typically get along with my brothers but if I had to pick one that I do like it'd have to be this one. He's the one that suggested I go to Nevermore with him.
-"yeah I'm fine"
I say kinda in a whisper with a smile. He looks at me the sighs.
-"let me know if Tony tries anything"
-"huh?"
I ask looking at him. I didn't know anyone in my family had realized what was going on.

-"come on Ens I'm not blind, why do you think I told mom and dad to send you to Nevermore in the first place? Just let me know if anything happens...and I'll beat his ass"
He says in almost a growl as his eyes glow yellow.
-"thank you"
He smiles.
-"well your my little sister, not like I can just let something happen to you"

Soon we arrive at the restaurant and my brothers instantly dart off to play in a ball pit. Me and my dad laugh a bit as my mom examines the menu. About 30 minutes pass and there's not a sign of Tony. Guess he's not coming.

Wednesday's pov:

I get up to my room and check my phone like my mom suggested. I open my phone and see 6 messages left from Enid.

Enid:
-'Are you sure?'
-'if I did something you can tell me'
...
-'ummmm Wednesday?'
...
-'is this about when I asked for your number earlier?'
...
-'Wednesday please answer me 😣🙏'

Shit.

ME:
-'I am SO sorry I didn't answer earlier'
-'I had my phone on silent and then had lunch with my parents'
...
-'but yes this is kinda about when you asked for my number'
-'I think we should talk later, there's something I need to tell you'

I turn off my phone and collapse on my bed again. I am NEVER silencing my phone again.

Enid's pov:

I hear my phone buzz but before I can reach it from my pocket the door bursts open. A tall man walks in and it almost seems at though light is surrounding him. He has sunglasses, a black shirt, a black jacket, grey pants, and cream colored leather shoes. His hair is a dusty brown color and he's gotta be at least 6 feet tall.
-"Tony!"
My mom exclaims. The man smiles and takes off his sunglasses.
-"Esther!"
He says happily as he spreads his arms open to hug her. So THIS is what Tony has become...I feel my stomach turn, I can't stand to be here.

Him and my mom kiss each other's cheeks and he then approaches my dad.
-"Murrayyy!"
Tony says, making his voice sound lower.
-"Tonyyy!"
My dad replies in the same raspy tone. They bear hug and he pats my dad on the back.
-"and of course you remember Enid"
My mom says with a smile, gesturing towards me. Tony's smile leaves his face and he turns to look at me.
-"ah..Enid, hey. How ya doin'?"
He asks.
-"fine"
I reply. My dad frowns and my mom looks annoyed. Tony smiles a bit.
-"hey well that's good ta hear!"
He says happily and lightly puts his hand on my shoulder to shake me playfully.

He looks down at me and smiles sweetly. He then crouches down on his knees and takes my hands. He look at him with pure disgust.
-"Enid I know we didn't leave off on the best terms but hey why don't we set our differences aside? For old times sake"
He says with a shrug. I look at my parents who seem to desperately be begging I accept. I smile.
-"sure we can do that"
I reply. He smiles.
-"glad ta hear, boy I've missed you!"
My mom smiles.
-"Tony you can sit right next to Enid"
She says. My dad stands up to move.
-"here ya are ma boy"
My dad says patting Tony's back as he walks to another seat.

I wanna protest but there'd be no point. I just smile, sit there, and look happy. Like always...
