Twenty-Three

Lexi woke up, stretching out her body, feeling Barnes pressed into her back, his arm around her waist. Her body still ached from their late night activities, and she couldn't help but wonder, if he really meant what he said.

She turned in the bed, so she was facing him, her fingers lightly tracing his face as she smiled.

'You keep looking that delicious sweetheart, and I'm going to have to taste you again..'.. She saw him smile and open his eyes, looking at her. She leaned in, giving him a quick kiss.

'As tempting as that is my alpha, I got a lot of shit to get done...'.. She brushed his hair from his face... 'How are you feeling?'

Bucky thought it all over. The past few weeks since D.C had been an absolute whirlwind. He hadn't really had time to think about anything when she was around him. But one thing he was sure of, was that he loved her.

'I'm alright..'... He sighed, and she took hold of his metal hand... 'I know you say it wasn't me, and I'm starting to believe that but, I still feel responsible. All the memories, the details..'

'It will take time, but I promise you, I will break you free from it all..'.. She smiled at him.

'Why Lex? When you said about your mother, the memory came back to me. It's my fault, I killed her. How can you be here with me right now, and not hate me? ..'.. He asks, his heart breaking, knowing because of him, she grew up without her mother.

'I don't hate you alpha, I never did. Its because of what happened to her, that started me on the thread of Hydra. I found your name in encrypted files. I had to find you, find a way to bring them down, so you could be free. No one, should ever have gone though what you did..'.. She tucked their entwined hands to her chest... 'I could never hate you, because I love you. I want you, to have the life that was taken from you. You are strong, brave, so pure. I can see it in you. The soldier never was, but you are..'

He stilled at her words, watching her face. He could see it in her eyes, she really didn't hate him, she loved him. He rolled over her, kissing her urgently, passionately. He pulled back, stroking her face... 'I love you too. I fell in love with you, that moment I saw you walk into the bar that day..'

Lexi grinned up at him, weaving her fingers into his hair... 'Oh really? Well then alpha, how about you show me..'

Tony hadn't slept.  He had spent the whole night, going through every single detail, intel and file he could about Barnes, the winter soldier, and his parents. He read through everything, but there were parts missing about the soldier. He knew Lexi would probably have the information he needed to fill in the blanks. He didn't really want to see her, or talk to her, but he had to know. He wasn't ready to see Barmes yet either, not until he had all the facts.

'Jarvis, call Adams down here, tell her it's urgent..'... Tony sighed as he leaned back in his chair, kicking his feet up on his desk, as he looked at the holo display of files up in the middle of his lab.

'Agent Adams has asked me to tell you she is on her way now sir, she shall be with you momentarily..'..

Not 5 minutes later, she skidded into his lab, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, pulling her hair up as she rushed in... 'Stark, is everything ok? What do you need, I'm here..'

Tony saw the look on her face, and all his anger at her disappeared. She was a victim too. She could have easily told him to fuck off, or some other form of profanity, but instead, she dropped whatever it was, most likely Barnes, to be here for him.

'I've been going over all the information I have..'.. He hesitated to the holo display... 'There's a lot missing and I need to know if you have anything to help fill in the blanks..'

Lexi quickly grabbed a stool from the other side of the lab, bringing it to the side of his desk and sat down... 'Jarvis, back door access SHIELD. Code 185534..'

'Access granted Agent Adams..'...

'Hidden server files. Search playground, Adams 626119. Hydra, Winter soldier, James Buchannan Barnes. Copy files to Stark personal servers. Include all files on Agent Alexandria Adams, Howard and Maria Stark, SSR, Red Skull, Howling Commandos and Captain Steve Rogers...'

She watched Tony, and sighed... 'All files to be accessed by Tony Stark, only. Initiate facsimile protocol...'

Tony looked over at the holo and saw more files upload onto his server. As much as he didn't want to be, he was impressed. He turned back to her, and he took a deep breath... 'Thank you. You've always been there for us Adams, right from the beginning. I know we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I know you have never lied to us, or put us in any danger..'

Lexi got up from her stool, coming around the desk to him. She nudged his chair, and dropped to sit on his lap, and hugged him tight.

Tony froze, he didn't know what to do. She had never ever shown any sign of affection. He hesitated, and then returned her hug, careful of where his hands sat on her back.

'Stark, I get it, I really do..'.. She pulled back to look at him... 'Please, just read the files. I'm not excusing your loss, far from it, you know I understand, but I look at things differently from others, you've seen that...'.. She sighed... 'If I thought for one second, he had any control over what happened, I'd have killed him myself, a long time ago..'

Tony knew she would have. She was one of the most deadliest people he knew, even more so than Romanoff. He rubbed a hand over his face, while the other remained on her back.

'I destroyed your lab..'.. Lexi huffed out a little breath, and shifted to sit on the edge of his desk in front of him.

'Who gives a shit. You needed an outlet. Glad it wasn't me really. Look, I have always had your back Stark, even when you've been an asshole. Trust me when I tell you, it wasn't him, he had no control.  Last night, I knew if I hadn't gotten between you both, you would've killed him in your grief and he would have let you, because of the guilt he carries..'

Tony knew she was right, she was always right, though he'd never tell her that... 'You were protecting us both, not just him..'.. He nodded, looking at her.

'Yeah. It's why I called the team down. You feel more comfortable with them. And Barnes feels comfortable with me. You needed your family Stark, and I'm glad there were there for you..'.. She reached over, clasping his shoulder.

'I gotta ask, and I know you'll probably beat the shit out of me for it, but..'.. He took a breath, hoping she wouldn't... 'Whats the deal with you two? He's your mission and you're sleeping with him, why?'

Lexi chuckled, seeing a slight twinge of fear in his eyes. She leaned back on the desk... 'It started out that way, yes. And I'm still making it my mission to free him from Hydra, but I love him Stark. I don't see the soldier, never have, never will..'.. She shrugged... 'He's my alpha..'

He scrunched his face at her scoffing... 'What is with that name?'

Lexi grinned wickedly, placing her feet on the arms of his chair and pulled him close... 'Because he looks like a wolf, ready to devour me..'

Tony cringed and pushed himself back... 'Forget I asked...'
