Fifty-Two

Jarvis had informed Bruce and the other two that the jet was landing, and the team had returned. The three men rushed from the med bay, and up to the main floor, waiting for the others. They were all relieved to see the team alive and unhurt, but the looks on their faces, told them something had happened.

'Where's Lex?..'.. Sam asked, looking between them all... 'Is she ok?..'

'She is fine..'.. Sam spun, seeing her walk out of the stairwell, carrying a rose bush in a cooking pot. She placed it on the coffee table, and sighed... 'I'm sorry for shouting at you all. I shouldn't have done that. I appreciate that you wanted to help and protect me, but you had no idea the extent of what you were walking into..'.. She took the time, hugging each one. Once she got to Nat, both women burst into tears, clinging onto each other for dear life.

'I'm so sorry it was there. It didn't cross my mind he would go there..'.. Nat stood back, her eyes darting to the rose bush on the table, and back to Lexi. He eyes asking a silent question.

'Reyah is taking him to my safe house..'.. Lexi cleared her throat... 'I told them to burn it down...'

'Lexi I'm so sorry...'.. Nat pulled her in for another hug, noticing the guys were looking at them confused.

'Its ok red, they'll take him to my house, so I'll still be able to visit him. Reyah wanted me to have those..'.. She nods to the roses... 'For the night, as comfort, until I go there and plant them with him..'

Nat took a deep breath, nodding as she stepped back, and wiped her face with her hands... 'I think your guys are waiting for your attention..'

Lexi chuckled through her tears, and threw herself at the two of them. The three hugged tight, and she felt safe again, she was exactly were she wanted to be.

Pulling back, she sandwiched herself in the middle, looking at Bruce... 'Hill and Fury will be free of the persuasion now. Connor is dead. But keep them out for another 12 hours, just to be sure his blood is out of their systems. And I'm sorry about the bed..'

'What bed?..'... Tony asks, dropping to sit on a couch.

'In the med bay. I flipped it in anger tok hard and broke it..'.. She shrugged, and they all moved to sit down. She sat down on the two of them, leaning back. She focused on the bar, bottles and glasses began to float over, setting down on the coffee table.

'You got his power then?..'... Barton asks her with a small smile, and he reached forward to pour himself a glass.

'Jarvis, order our usual pizza please, I am not in the mood to cook right now..'.. She turned to Barton, nodding at him... 'Yeah, I got it. I had to piss him off enough to put his hands on me, but was terrified of what he would do. It worked though..'

The elevator opened, with Pepper and Happy rushing out. Lexi flitted over to them both, holding them back. She leaned in to sniff the two of them, before stepping back... 'Sorry, just had to check..'

She headed back to her guys, flopping down on them, and cuddling in. She was completely drained of everything... 'After food, I'm going to bed, I need rest. We'll talk about it all tomorrow. Right now, I'm just glad you're all safe..'

Sam's phone rang, and she picked it up answering. Lexi could hear it was Reyah, as he stood, walking to the window to talk to her. She sniffled, feeling the warmth of both men, as the comforted her.

'Lex, Reyah wants to talk to you..'... She turned her head to Wilson as he held the phone out to her. She sighed, getting back up again and taking the phone.

'All ok?..'... She asked, moving away from the others as they all talked.

'Its done. I just wanted to let you know. He's at your house now, under the blossom tree..'

Lexi cleared her throat, holding back another bout of tears... 'Thank you, all of you. Please send word to all the councils, that I will hold a meeting at the club in Saturday, they're all to attend. I will speak with them all then..'

'It will be done. We are going to one of the banks now, would you like us to bring you any?..'

'Yes please..'... She turned to face her family... 'And come join us, we have to celebrate that it's over now..'

'We will be there soon darling..'.. Lexi heard the click of Reyah hanging up, and she walked back over, tossing the phone back to Wilson, as she sat back down again.

'So, let's get the drinks flowing. It's been a very long week..'.. She held out a hand as a bottle of vodka flew to her. Opening it, she drank down a quarter of the bottle, before handing it to her alpha. Leaning into her Captain, she sighed, closing her eyes, she was really tired.

Tony watches as she fell asleep on Rogers, and let out a breath. She had every right to berate them as she did, she was right, they didn't know what they were walking into. He looked across at Romanoff, as Pepper handed him a glass of scotch.

'I've never seen you cry until today. Something happened to her, didn't it?..'.. She didn't say anything, but look at him... 'That place meant something to her, and you know what it is..'

'Tony..'.. She croaked out, tears in her eyes... 'Don't. If she wants to tell you, she will, but don't push her..she's been through more than you know, and she's still fighting those battles in her head. I'm asking you, drop it..'

Tony felt a wave of sadness wash over him. Seeing that look in Romanoffs face, Lexis reaction and the rose bush she brought back, he thought over what she had said earlier, about 'him being moved'. He knew, there's only one thing that it could be and fe felt his heart break, as he looked back over to the woman curled up with the soldiers.

'It was a child, wasn't it?..'.. His voice was hoarse, as the others all went silent. He turned back to Romanoff, seeing her tears fall... 'She lost a kid, two including Hannah..'.. He leaned forward, placing his drink on the table and running his hands over his face, feeling his cheeks wet.

'Tony, please no more..'.. He heard Nats voice break, and it broke his heart. He wiped his face clear, taking a deep breath.

'She is one strong woman..'.. He glanced over at Lexi, seeing she was still asleep... 'I get it now..'.. He looked around at the team, seeing them all fighting back emotions... 'I get why she's so protective, why she calls us family. Connor has taken everything from her and she's still here, keeping us safe. I understand why she was so angry at us, she didn't want to lose any of us..'

He dropped his head in his hands, trying to compose himself, as Pepper ran a hand up and down his back.

'Sir, the food has arrived. Shall I have them place it in the elevator for you?..'

'Yes please Jarvis, thanks..'.. Tony stood, heading to the elevator to wait for the food. He couldn't believe how strong she was, that she had lost so much, and have everything she had to keep others safe. She was the most selfless person he had ever met. No matter what he would always be on her side.
